Hello, this is my first post here so excuse me if I posted in the wrong thread.

But basically, I've been looking to find a certain style of rear bumper and taillight assembly that looks similar to what the Celica has, and in my opinion the stock USDM supra taillights look pretty ugly. I've read on a post that those are actually Celica parts and not supra specific. I'll link a video showing you what it looks like.

Here's a comparison between the type of taillights I have (left) and the ones I'm looking for (right):

Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks!

The first picture you have there is an early Supra - '82 or '83. I agree they are pretty ugly. I have some later '84 -'85 stock USDM tail lights available. As pictured below.

Correction: I have an 85' supra, with the same ones you showed me, I mixed them up I guess. But I'm still looking for that Euro/JDM spec rear taillight.

What specifically you're looking for came on European Mk2s with the wide plate. You do know that the rear body panel between the taillights is different? You can't just buy Celica tailights and bolt them on. The tailights look basically like the US Celica ones, but I'm sure the tint or something is probably different since the laws are different around the world. The bumper light on the Euro cars bolt on. You can probably just substitute a generic plate light from something else and cut the bumper.

Well of course the license plate frame is different on the European one I've shown, that would also have to be changed. I'm guessing it's unlikely I could fit Celica taillights to it. If you know where I can source some EU spec taillights I'd appreciate it 🙏

No what I'm saying is that the welded on body panel that the tailights mount in the car is different from light to light. If you buy the Celica type lights they don't fit on the Supra body. I'm sure if you had a Celica parts car you could cut that panel out and repaint the back of the car though. Good luck getting parts from a UK Supra. They barely sold any there.

Yeah I got you. I guess I'm out of luck on finding one until someone decides to sell a set

I think what he's saying is that you need the set of lights, the plate piece in between and the whole steel substructure of the car that's welded to the trunk floor/bumper/fenders, etc shown below (sorry for the mess, I was in the process of cleaning the car). I don't think you're going to find one of those for sale anywhere unless you're wandering through European junk yards.

Thanks for that extra bit of info, I guess I'll have to put that project on hold until somehow I can get a hold of all the necessary parts/panels.

I recently made the mistake of assuming the celica lights bolted on. The geometries are very similar, but the sheet metal is different enough to need the Celica panel as well. From what I can tell (and part of what fooled me) is that the UK and some other foreign Supras used the Celica rear sheet metal, license plate filler, and brakelight assemblies.

On that note, I would trade both my Celica assemblies for just your passenger side light if it was early model (which i think you indicated it is not).

Will the later assemblies fit the early supra? That's my next challenge... otherwise I need to get clever on repairing my 83's broken lens.

From my Original (1st) MK II Supra .....in addition to every conceivable thing that could be unbolted... I cut out the Rear Quarter Panels & Tailight back plate from it...

Wheel Tire Land vehicle Car Vehicle

After I had managed to Collect/Install all the Necessary pieces to repair damage fr going thru a Guard Rail ... Maaco screwed up ...& Bent the Frame... then went "Ooops... Our bad ... but we're not refunding any of the $$ U paid us" ... GRRR Still makes my Blood Boil ..Bent Frame was discovered as I was having the car Certified to put it on the Road after many hours/years collecting/installing the necesary pieces !!

Attached are the "Rest In Pieces" pics... & U will note... that the car is SOOO well engineered... that the A Pillars alone... would support the weight of a person on the Roof. with not even the WINDSHIELD being in place.

Anyway... my point is in addition to the Quarter Panels... I cut out the back plate & have it "somewhere"

NOTE: NOT interested in selling to OP... or anyone else... this is just for reference...

I can only keep an eye out for it as I'm going about organizing other stuff... but I could do an Extremely Accurate Trace of the Panel... which then might be useful to U ... to Modify Ur existing back panel.. to fit the lights U want to put on...

The only thing is... I can't afford to spend the time looking for the Specific piece... exclusively...

So I'll let U know... IF/WHEN... I find it.... Sincere Best Wishes for best of Luck

Cheers,

Thanks for taking the time to answer, please do show me the tracing of the panel whenever you manage to do so.

Cheers.

NP ... If/When I find it... I would trace it onto a Piece of Cardboard... & then Mail the Cardboard to U... so that U have a Template to refer to/put up against Ur existing Panel...

Not to be an old crank, and knowing this thread was gone way down the road, but considering what it appears you are up against switching light assemblies and the obvious beauty! of the light assemblies in your left picture (stock on my 1983) why bother. Jim
