NEW 5MGTE ..(WINTER PROJECT)... (now complete Aug 23/04)

Well, I hauled the beast out of the corner of the garage and drained all the fluids this morning. Started to unhook all hoses, remove hood and get ready for the engine upgrades... i decided to go with the 5mge engine... just to be different i guess.......i will be trying to get 300hp out of it... it does not seem like there are many out there with this kinda horsepower so i will aim to be as good as i can get it... i will be hauling the engine out next week... then i will decide what route to take from there...wish me luck... i will keep you guys updated ..along with probably alot of questions....meanwhile... i will go back to Project "MKII MONSTER"

and a monster she will be when i'm done... later

Im pretty sure you are gonig to have to build the bottom end for that 5MGTE to reach 300hp. the highest 5MGTE with stock internals I've heard about is Jason's mk2, he just put out 250 on a 5MGTE with stock internals

Uhm, someone just put down 250RWhp at 7psi... I'm pretty sure you could hit 300hp (flywheel) pretty easily.

I am running 317 flywheel on cast pistons (bored .020 over). 271whp. With bigger injectors (I am running 295's now) I would turn the boost up to 12 or 13. That would get close to 300whp I would guess.

metal head gasket

i got a good deal on a 1.2mm head gasket...will this be too thin... should i go with a 2mm??

8.8-1 or 9.2-1?

Which tranny???

I now have confirmation that the Canadian 84 motors are setup the same way as the US motors.. So.....

If you have a 5-speed, then you have the 160 hp motor, which should be the 9.2 compression motor.

If you have a Automatic, then you have the 150hp motor, which should be the 8.8 compression motor.

Now if your motor has been swapped in the past, or if you have gone 6M, then things will be slightly different (well, we know that 6M's are 9.2 compression).

week #2

well the motor is almost out... mostly everything is now stipped of the engine and the exhaust is now out...... noticed a crack in my stock manifold.... this will be replaced anyway..... most of my parts r in.... just waiting on a few more and i will be checking over the engine to decide what to do with it... may go with high performance pistons... may have to deck the head and block but i will see when i get it out...... i only have time to work on the project during the weekends so its a little slow...i will be posting pictures shortly of the whole project from week to week... any one care to comment on using a 1.2mm metal head gasket... i bought one fairly cheap and brand new...

good luck buddy.. im doing the same thing...well not the turbo.. id like to thou...i just gotta find a place to do it.....damn it.. i got 2 84 & 85.. 84 motor has been bored out 85 is the good car , but krank has been kyfed.. stupid keyway.. anyhoo so.. swap.. good luck and ill keep in the sites

im also starting a turbo project.
i have a 86 mk2
automatic trans. are you keeping the automatic??
i would like to that would be less work
but i dont know if its better with a 5 speed

i am staying with the auto for now, but i have installed a high performance torque converter... if it ends up handling the power, i will let you know how it turns out.... i only plan on having it ready in the spring though...

autos are for pussy's....*ahem* girls :wink: anyways yeh goodluck to everyone who is goin turbo...i remembered when i had the turbo on my 5m also...and believe me the response on it is great... be ready to smoke camaros and stangs....and tony PM me back when you get the PACKAGE...lol peace out guys

I'm gonna take that remark a bit personal

I'm 1/2 crippled some days because of a back injury,and shifting just don't get it when in pain.Have a tough time driving my 5sp truck somedays,so BITE ME,I'll run an auto and kick your ass at the track to boot :wink: While I drink my coffee and use one hand to dive,because I don't have to shift. :lol:

Hey I have an automatic too... And after driving 5sp all my life it really easy and It feels like it shifts faster. I mean with no pause in-between.
If my trany and engine were tight, I think it would gooooo :3gears:

thanks... it is 36 x28..with a side shop 10x16 so you don't have to work next to the car all the time...2 front doors and one side door for the snowmobile....
