Hey, I'm Gino. I'm from Vegas.
Recently came upon a manual transmission 84 Celica. Not a supra because I honestly like the lights being a little closer to the grill like an 86, but I have an immense amount of love for this car already. It's in good health, but I'm very much so a novice. My goal is to figure out how to do a 2JZ Swap on it, but I have no idea where to start. Looking to learn everything I can about this car. Want to be able to take it apart and put it back together if need be.

Apologies if I'm in the wrong spot, can't actually post anything on the celica only forum, and this place seems a lot less likely to tell me a 2JZ swap is impossible so that I'll stop posting.

Celicas are welcome here too. To the extent that we share parts, we need to coordinate and cooperate for the common good. Your engine bay is shorter, as I recall the Supra has something like five extra inches between the firewall and the front wheels (you'll have to google search for the exact dimensions), but that does present some challenges. I remember a guy 20+ years ago doing a 7mgte swap by relocating the radiator with electric fans on the front and no a/c. So if that's possible, a JZ surely is too. We have a number of guys on here who've done JZ swaps on their mk2 Supras and I'm sure they'll answer any specific questions if they can.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to get in contact with some of those guys for more in depth knowledge.

You might consider an internal upgrade to the 22RE, which is an awesome engine. A classic. They don't weigh much and there are probably write-ups on this. Then, mods on exxhaust, intake, ect. and you've got some real horsepower.

Yeah I've got a lot planned before a swap even comes into question I just like having goals to chase. The 22RE is a monster in reliability. Still can't believe this thing was made to push around a truck and they stuck it in a car so light. Incredible.

22re can barely push a truck. Not much power but bullet proof. Ample power for the Celica, however.

having owned a 85 GT way back when, the 22re was a great motor. You may decide to stick with it, learn the car and upgrade the steering/suspension and brakes first while researching a swap, maybe a G16E-GTS ?

Yeah that was definitely the plan. I'll look into this engine. I definitely hadn't considered any motors from the newer Toyota GR stuff but I have heard really good things about the cars as a whole.
