I'm a newbie, and I have a 2wd Toy truck that I autocross (so the truck forums don't help me much), so hopefully I don't offend anyone with my question, but here it is:

I just installed a new longblock 22RE, and now I have a couple of problems.

1. AFM sounds like a very quiet car horn. It is making a honking noise like I have never heard before. If anyone has heard that whistling noise that brake boosters sometimes make when they get a little tear in them, this is much the same, but it is coming out of the AFM.

2. I know this truck has pulse AIR injection. It comes on at idle, causing the idle to rise, then fall, then rise then fall in a most annoying way.

3. I've adjusted the idle speed 3 times since cleaning the TB and resetting the TPS, and one day it runs at 800 rpm, the next at 1500 rpm, the next at 800 rpm. Of course the whole time the dang AIR injection is causing the idle to go up and down and it's really hard to drive.

Thanks for any input,

Jon

Oops, I think I just realized that this is not a Celica/Supra forum, but a CelicaSupra forum.

Any help would still be appreciated, including a link to a Celica forum...

first off, the horn noise is either a vacum leak near the afm, or there is something keeping it from opening up like its supposed to. my guess is the hoseclamp holding the hose to the afm is loose, or there is a very restrictive airbox/airfilter on the afm.

second, sounds like your tps is either bad, or the plug that goes to it has a wire or 2 that are broken inside the insulation. try a new tps first. that should solve it. if not get a plug from a junkyard and soldier it in.

Check all of your intake piping closely for cracks that could be causing an air leak between the AFM and the TB.

engine help please

Ok, after I cleaned out inside the cat, the car runs much better for some reason (I did the same with the accord and no change). So I decide to take the distrubitor cap out and clean it too along with it's 2parts condenser (I think. they have magnet). I use w40 to clean the rust off where the rotor goes onto. I also adjusted the cables, trying to get rit of the slacks.
The engine runs, but weaker than before and the check engine kind of blinking several times. So I did the engine by pulling the plug wires one by one and found out that #3 cylinder make no change when I pulled. I check the wire (engine runs) it gives spark and spark plug sparks too. The injector sound normal.
So my question is What the hell wrong with it or did I do something wrong?
THNAKS!

i know it sounds really dumb but if there is a air pocket in the coolant system it will cause the idle to jump around. Happend all the time at the dealership...
