Bought the car in December and from what I can tell the PO had a bad TPS and adjusted things to get the car to run okay.

Well I didn't like the idea of having a bad TPS so I installed a working TPS, set the timing, and now the car idles at 400-500.

Unplug the TPS and the car idles fin at 900'ish

Thoughts???

that's strange,I had a new TPS installed yesterday by my pal at my local Toyota dealer, and I was expecting a drop in idle.
He set the timing, and cleaned out the TB,put it all back together, and it still [email protected] thought I may have an idle that's too high.
Could it be electrical?

dash pot does not effect idle speed.

try removing the ISCV and cleaning it, a little dielectric grease on the shaft too helped my high idle issue.

Lossimo, if I rotate the TPS just off the idle strip, it will idle at 900 (just like it was unplugged). This is not how the TPS should be but it make the car drivable. From what I understand if you jump out the TEST CONNECTOR and the CEL doesn't flash.. the TPS is not adjusted correctly.

I'll look into the ISCV this weekend.
