well, i recently switched to synthetic, so i thought id check the level before going for dinner, so i pull the dip stick and clean it, then back in and out, but coming out it felt heavy (it was dark in the engine bay)
i look and theres my dipstick tube out to say hello too...

so, question #1, is it going to kill my engine to drive to the parts place tomorrow?
and #2, how hard is it to replace the dipstick tube?

ive never had anything like this happen, and im not sure if i should just try to stick the tube back in, or if theres some secret to getting it to stay in place?
im gonna go mess with it tonight i think, but im hoping someone can give me a good answer before anything bad happens.

thanks yall! :D

Just press it back in. The outside dipstick tube should be forced moderately hard into block. I don't really see how this can come out this easily, unless it wasn't installed correctly the 1st time. I don't think I'd really drive it too far with an open hole there.

Deeper?

Yeah, it was hard taking out of my 82 motor. No threads :x I was turning and pulling w/pliers to get it out.

And now sticking it in the 84 motor that was missing it. Just can't seem to get it in all the way :? I have been hammering it. But anymore i'm worried I may damage it.

I'm mainly worried it will affect the real oil measurement :?

i think mine was about the same when i installed the engine, didnt seem to go all the way in, then i cant remember what i did, and it seated it self, or seemed to.

im really not sure what could have caused this, unless i bashed it with my elbow while changing the alternator earlier in the month.

i guess im gonna go out and shove it in there... see if i cant get enough light in the engine bay to find the hole.

thanks folks :)
