which do u think i sould go for...i have a 84 celica supra with quite i few rust spots on it and the motor has 200,000 on it, but it was saposidly just rebuilt....n ur opinion what should i do first????? all help would b nice!!

I would first paint the car and fix all the rust spots you can find. Its better to stop the cancer now before it spreads....engine work can be done later.

Not enough info. Is there anything wrong with the motor that you believe it wasn't rebuilt correctly or not at all? You can have a reputable mechanic check your car just as if you were thinking to buy it. Perhaps the motor and everything checks out good. If so, what about the rest of the car. Get some estimates and see if you think its worth it.

hey emo i used to think the same thing, but in the case of many of our supras the rust has to be stopped or by the time it drives fast it may just break in half....lol

I would personally go with the engine...and for the rust spots....what i did was got some rust converter at autozone....it should be in the touch up paint section....just put some of that on the rust...its like paint...it puts a nice clear coat on the rust, and stops it from spreading...and it will also help out alot when it does come time for u to paint your car...but look for some Rust Converter in the touch up section at ur local automotive store....AutoZone, Pep Boyz, Advanced Auto's ect...hopw that helps ya out some...

i agree, stop the rust, sand and grind it away, get metal welded in if need be, then primer the whole car with spraycan flat black, voila, youve got a paint job AND stopped the rust.

then turbo the bitch.

meh, its a toyota... it really depends who you talk to, and "the motor has 200,000 on it, but it was saposidly just rebuilt."

well, if it was just rebuilt, it doesnt have 200000 on it, well, it does, but it doesnt... anyways... if it was just rebuilt, id say there shouldnt be too much of a problem turboing, as long as you stick to low boost, like 5-6 psi.

while we r on this subject...i too am repainting my car...but...if i get it ready to be painted...it will be a couple months untill i actually can do it cause i wanna work on the engine and stuff and repaint it when it gets nice out again....f$%kin PA....anyways....due to the winter and stuff...will i have to sand it back down again and re-primer it???

i don't think anytime soon ill b spending 4k on a turbo..rather go with a 6 or 7m-gte motor

I'm a bit confused...if the motor has just been rebuilt, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it right? So why can't you decide between motor or body?

I say, if your motor is running flawlessly, get the body in tip top shape as well...rust is a pain...at first sight you should eliminate it or else it will only get worse with time...I know this from experience.

I've been working on the engine before the body. However, once I become one with the engine I'm fixing every square inch of the body because I can't stand the imperfections. I've already got the money set aside for it...but I know it's going to take around a month to do. So before then, I want the engine perfect. Not long now though...

But yeah, if your engine is running great, get your body work done...if you only have minor rust, it wont cost that much to repair...
