Anyone have any opinions on an old school gradient style center set of Recaros?

I am not fueling the stock seat- are they Recaros debate.

I am so sick of my fugo aftermarket JDM EBay hotness seats, I am ready to throw them out and sit on the floor of my Supra…

Seats that I would love to find that seem to have a low bottom height (but not gradient center, but I like the design) :

89 VW Gulf Rallye seats:

I'm assuming an optional package or stock for that version VW back in the day. Found these here:
VW Gulf Rallye

Recaro Trophy’s, found on another VW site:

1987 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde with Recaro interior package:

Recaro C-Series supposedly found in random VW’s and Porches (Though I don’t know if that covering is original, but I like it):

Recaros found in MKII VW GTI and MKII Jetta GLI :

Recaro Avus LXA:
Sit nice and low where “your bum would be”, and I like the simple look

Possibly another Verde with another style of Recaros ( I don’t know, but THESE are what I would love):

Discuss….

the vw recaro seats are sooo damn comfortable. my friend did a recaro interior swap on his mk2 jetta back when he had it and i loved them. great support, yet you could be in them for hours and still feel comfortable. plus, you can get them relatively cheap. the only downside is the way they mount is weird. i didnt really spend too much time checking out whether i could make my own seat brackets to fit into my supra but it would be alot of work for sure.

As it has been mentioned before, the support brace that runs along the bottom of the interior where the seat goes forces most seats to sit up higher, hence the need for a lower profile seat bottom. The brackets I had to make to get the retarded seats I have now to fit took a ton of time to maximize head clearance and full slider adjustment. I unfortunately hacked up my stock seats to "borrow" the feet and rails. I would gladly spend hours upon hours making the perfect mounts for any of the above Recaros if it means I don't have to sit in my current seats anymore....

The P Type seats were a game changer in 82.... Toyota bogarted the best aspects of the Recaros and custom tailored them like a fine Brioni suit. Save the pinstripe jokes, the factory seats are the jam.

No doubt the Recaros are an awesome upgrade in any other car, but for a mk2, it wld be like replacing Jessica Alba with a B-actress.

The wild card in this case is your car is heavily modified, so you could pull it off with class.

If your whip were mine.... Id put new leather skins on a P Type frame and call it a wrap.

I have been keeping my eye out for another set of stock P's to have recovered, but I have reeeeaaally been digging the old school Recaro "aftermarket" look. As Greg puts in better words than I can, My car is heavily modified inside and out, and while most things in my interior give a more "aggressive attitude," I'm afraid that the stock P's give a more luxury VIP look than aggressive. I love the stockers, but I don't know if they will mesh well with what I plan. I want to eventually integrate a cage into the car as unnoticeable as possible, but the rear seats will be gone along with the huge sub box, and I might try harness belts. The stockers I don't think will "mesh" with this style...

As ghey as it might sound, I was considering recovering stock P’s with the Recaro gradient as the center in suede or cloth (grading from black to light grey), and black pleather/vinyl on the bolsters.

Thanks dogs, -Mike

Malloy, if you'll throw me a set of minty black P's, I'm all for it!

I guess I broke my relationship with the P's nearly four years ago and have forgotten their comfort/beauty.... I will need to fall in love with them all over again to justify spending $$$$ to get some recovered.
