Power handling capabilities of 85' Auto trans?

I want to tansplant a 87' 7MGTE engine that has an AT into my 85'. Will the 87' engine and AT fit in the 85? If not can the 85 AT be used with and hold up to the power of the 87' turbo motor? I would rather not convert to a MT unless necessary. Thanks

At stock boost and no other mods, the A43DE tranny will hold up to the 7m-gte. Beyond that, its a matter of time, how long is anyones guess. I'd look into using the mk3 tranny. Here is a link to a picture of them sidexside. Mk2 on top and mk3 on bottom. May need to be signed in as a member of yahoo groups to see the pic.
