with a blown tranny (let's just say it works), if i push a car with the engine running and in neutral, will it do any damage?

i know that pushing an auto when the engine is off is a bad idea, but with the engine just running at idle, it should be a-okay, right?

no not a good idea, it does not matter if the engine is running or not if the trans is not in gear, not in gear no fluid moving so its the same as off.
just get them to lift the rear tires and tow in reverse and it will be fine,
but if the tranny is broke who cares

You can also disconnet the drive shafts off the car and tow it... I *think* they can tow the car @ a speed of less then 50Kph for no more then 50 Kms with out any damange but i can be wrong. It's been a while since i have had to get the car towed away on it's rear wheels.

See if you can just get a tray truck and then you don't have to worry...

basically what it comes down to is that i don't want them delivering the car to where it's going to be kept because these guys are REALLY shady and we have lots of stuff just out in the open. I'd like to get it dropped off at the gas station less than a kilometre away and just push it there.

also note that i believe it's just the torque converter, not the transmission itself that's hooped, so i'd like to minimize damage to it.

but pushing it less than a kilometre should be okay, right?

How about asking a friend and get the Supra on a car trailer tow it there. It may be more appealing to tow the car there 8) then just pushing it there

I towed my 83 Auto parts car home by its rear wheels in neutral. Dont know if its broke or not, but it didnt start smoking/making noise or anything crazy. Towed about 8 miles.

GFluid pump inside tranny is driven by converter neck-so if converter neck is broken off it wont pump oil inside tranny no matter what-converter still drives pump in neutral-So if Converter neck is broken off-No oil circulates-Dont tow-Otherwise OK-Also, worst case scenario is piece of metal between bushings/washers thats not lubed away-just like dry start of engine-A mile is prob OK-My .02-Mike

If you check in the Haynes manual it tell you in there that you can tow the auto for a distance of up to 50miles at a speed of no more than 35mph.

I have towed mine at 30mph for a distance of 30miles and the trans is still ok........but we did stop for a break every 10miles to check the trans wasnt hot and to cool off as motor no go thus no aircon. so only prob was me overheating in the car........not a prob for the car.

As long as the engine is idling and the auto trans. has good fluid pressure, you shouldn't have any problem with towing the car. You might want to play it safe though and have the car towed on a flat bed or take the driveshaft loose at the diff. if the auto trans. is really messed up internally. The tailshaft could possibly lock up if something is busted internally and that would cause your rear wheels to lock up.
