I was looking the 62mm throttle body on Aaron's site and I got to thinking. I don't have my '84 anymore to compare to, but doesn't the '82 throttle body have more vacuum ports than the later model throttle bodies? Thanks.

i belive it does, because the 82 has vacuum advance on the distributor, and the other years dont IIRC

Hi Chad. I've not compared the two throttle bodies side by side in quite some time, but the vac ports are definitely different. If you would like to get a TB done, please send the unit from your model year Supra(s). Later!

Aaron,
What is the turn around time for this TB work? Do you have an 85 TB in stock so my car doesn't have to be down for much time and I send in a core or do I need to visit the Junk yard?

Thanks, Aaron. I will have to source a spare '82 throttle body so I don't have any downtime. I may wait for cold weather to proceed with this option....will have to see how the cash flow goes. Thanks again.

Aaron,

If I sent you a TB could you get it bored more than 62mm, say to 64mm? Would there be any advantage? 60mm is stock, 62mm is an improvement (it made a difference, right?), then 64mm would be better, right?

Not to sound like a smart-ass, Aaron, but what about boring it to 63mm, every mm counts!

I should have an '82 Throttle Body to send to you soon.

Oh, I just heard my friends said that adding TB spacer would increase power that all. As for the material, it depends on the cost and the function and differences. I assume the aluminum. If I get the spacer do what size and what size of bolts do I need?

Has anyone done this be? Any improvement at all?
thanks!

i would use phenolic as it will block the heat transfer better. also, if you do that id highly recomend bypassing the tb coolant lines. that way the engines coolant doesnt heat it up.

Chad. You're right, every mm counts. My TB guy has done a good number of these TBs, and has found that 62mm is the most he can go. Maybe I'll send him another TB to toy with, for experimentation purposes. I'll let him know if he toasts it, he does not have to buy it. That might work. Hehehehe.
Supraii. I don't think doing an aluminum spacer will do anything for you (TB and manifold are same material). I don't have a source for getting non-metal materials cut. Realize, that if you do use a spacer, you'll have to modify the stock intake piping.

When I measured my TB to go and get it bored (never did though), the inlet, the part the intake piping connects to, is 65mm where the other end is 60mm....So I figured why not 64mm, but I never did get it bored as I couldn't find a new butterfly plate....
