So i had my head under my car this weekend just sort of tinkering around and i noticed that my rear diff is covered in black gunk.
I desided it was coming from the pinion seal. How much of a PITA is this to change? Is it something a backyard mechanic like myself could accomplish?

The front pinion seal is sort of a PITA to do. To do it correctly you need to remove the differential/ring gear assy, undo the front pinion nut and remove the pinion gear shaft, and then set everything back up. If you are going to do this you might as well replace the 2 pinion bearings and side seals at the minimum while you are there.

This sounds like a full weekend project. Also a task where if i screw something up there could be major consiquences
i might call around and see if i can get a true mechanic to attack this for me.
