Im thinkig about brakes and trying to scope out if there are any rotor/caliper paackges superior to that of a MA61 off a late model car that will 'almost' bolt straight up behind the stock 14 inch rims, with some minor bracket engineering?

Not much.

I investigated this years ago.

Even if there were a hub or Toyota rotor replacement, you'll still
be looking at thin rotors.

To accomplish an upgrade to the MK2 to fit 14" wheels is tough.

You'll need a flat rotor that is at least 1" wide, then make
an adapter to fit the rotor to the existing hub.

Then comes finding a caliper that will support 1". You could
use the stock calipers, and shave the pads, but that will
cut the pad life almost in half.

Toyota is notorious for changing fitment once a new model version is developed.

Retro-fit is definitely not in the Toyota Engineer's design criteria.

The idea was to ignore the center hole or PCD after a while and have a blank rotor redrilled to suit the application, whilst running the stock calipers that came with the rotor as mentioned below.

Definitely, check it out. DBA has some great parts, some which
is difficult to get here in the US.

Well this is what i came up with after exhausting the DBA catalogue.

Mercedes Benz A Class Rotor from a A190.

Diameter: 276mm
Height: 36mm
Thickness: 22mm
Center Hole: 67mm

Matched with Mazda RX7 Series 4 N/A calipers.

This setup will not work with the stock 14inch rims however. Will require a 15inch rim!!!!! The disc will have to be purchased undrilled and be machined, including taking the center hole out to 76mm.

These are all numbers, i havent actually attempted the swap, but thought it may work.

Alternatively for those with 14inch rims it may be possible to go with rotors from:

BMW 318i E30

Diameter: 260mm
Height: 35.1mm
Thickness: 22mm
Center Hole: 66mm

Part # DBA 679

and bolt them up with the same RX7 caliper. The disc size has only increased 2mm and thickness 2mm, but the caliper is slightly superior.

Really depends if you want to keep your stock rims i guess.

Don't know if they are 2 or 4 piston

id say probably 2 consider they are off the non turbo

I really dont know until some makes a trip to a wrecker.
