I'm a huge fan of the books and think they have done a good job on the first two movies. Here's what I think of the third one.

AMAZING.

They pulled out all the stops on this one. 3 and a half hours flew right by. The emotional impact of this film is something far beyond what I expected it to be. In this way it truely grasped the essence of what the book was.

As a true fan of the books themselves, I could nit-pick on the details that were left out of this film. I won't. As it stands at 205 minutes, I think it has been cut down as best as it possibly could be. Sure there were things they left out, but yet they still managed to capture the heart of what Tolkien wanted his audience to experience. Well done.

The effects in this movie were at least as spectacular, if not more so than the previous two. Yet they do not detract from the story, and the viewer hardly notices them. The battle scenes are intense and very well done.

Bottom line- go see this movie. See it three times. Take your friends. It captures the essence of the human spirit.

I saw the Shortened Edition of Return last night, it was great! But I can't wait for the real edition to come out on DVD. I hope they don't hold onto it till November like they did with the others!

You call 3 1/2 hours shortened? It rocked though, it has been so long since I read the book I forgot most of it. I haven't seen any of the extended versions yet I jusat dont have that long of an attention span, I guess thats why I don't get into video games like my friends, I cant play for hours like they do.

he had a 7 minute fight scene in King, they cut it for time reasons. Like I said, the theatrical releases are the shortened versions. The so called "Extended Versions" are the original directors cuts. They're all 4 hour movies, and theres nothing I've seen in the 4 hour versions that I would say needed to be cut.

They were showing the whole trilogy in theaters up here on tuesday, with the extended versions for the first two. 11.5 hours viewing time! Now that is too much, my ass was sore after just the Return of the King.

I thought it was AMAZING myself! I am SO glad it didn't turn out to be a dissapointment like the third episode of the Matrix. :puke: This one will be seen again and again even before owning the DVD..

Before I 1st opened this subject, I was expecting to see Jim King's product review. True, I should've known better to expect OT. Anyhow, not to offend anyone who likes King's book/movie, he's just too weird for my taste...

Saw it at 12:01 on Wednesday, and I have to agree, it rocked. Especially loved the scenes with Sheelob (the giant spider); something about the reactions from the three college girls behind me  . Of course, the end seemed to drag on for a long time, but so did the book; but the 3-4 fake endings (didn't count) did seem a bit gratuitous (IMHO)

JUst saw it tonight, and hafta say it fuckin rocked. The mopuntain men were very well done I think... as was the whole fight scene in Minas Tirith... tho i hafta say.. if I was an Orc, standing there with a spear while 6000 armored men on horseback came charging at me... I think I would hand the spear to the guy behind me and go for a coffee break at that point...lol.

I saw it Thursday night and I too thought it was awesome **cough** Matrix Trilogy Rules** . My only complaint...no man should have to sit in a theatre for 4 frick'n hours **cough**Matrix Trilogy Rules**. Crap man, the movie was sheduled at 10pm...there were 10mins of commercials, and about 10mins of previews...so by the time you got out, you were in that frick'n seat for 4 hrs...not my idea of a good time  **cough**Matrix Trilogy Rules**.

Won't bore the crowd w/ a complete review, but I was extremely impressed w/the movies. I had #1 on dvd for over a year, w/out watching it, (I usually grab a few pre-viewed titles while delivering to Blockbuster once a week, on the times they have the good sales, then watch em when the mood strikes).

Point being, saw #1, realized I was sitting on something that was WAY more than I thought it would be, had to go right out and get #2, (pre-viewed dvd of course, spend the good bucks on the Supra 8), NOT!, I'm just stingy), watched #2, AWESOME as well, and within a week, went to see this last one in the theater yesterday. Spectacularly done, I must get the other 2 Special edition 5 disc box sets to complete the collection. first one had 30 addtl min, watched 1&2 over just before seeing #3, never thought that nowadays I would feel like that w/ the crap thats been coming out of the industry for years.

If anyone is waiting for similar reasons, don't, it is awesome. I also think I was able to benifit from not having to wait between episodes, made it better I think.
