FORGET WHERE I SAW IT BEFORE I DID IT, BUT YOU CAN SEPERATE THE UPPER BELL (INSULATING) PART OF THE STOCK SHIFTER. IT IS INJECTED WITH RUBBER ABD TAKES A GOOD FULL TURN TO GET IT TO START SEPERATING. REMOVE SHIFTER SECURELY PLACE BOTTOM OF SHAFT IN VISE AND GRAB BELL SECTION ABOVE SPLIT WITH A PIPE WRENCH THEN TURN, YOU CAN ALSO HEAT THE TOP SECTION SOME TO HELP SOFTEN RUBBER. TRUE THIS DOES NOT CHANGE THE "THROW" OR MOVE THE LEVERAGE RATIO BUT IIT DOES SHORTEN THE SHIFTER. REALIZE AT THIS POINT THAT YOU HAVE NO THREADS FOR KNOB AND I'VE FOUND RUBBER LINE AND SILICONE TO BE A GOOD ATTACHMENT ALTERNATIVE. ME AND FRIEND DID MY 85 MKII AND HIS 86 AE86 GTS IN SAME HOUR. I LIKE THE SHORTENED STOCK SHIFTER WELL.
