Well i have an insane idea. Is it possible and has anyone here took a front cut of a all trac celica and made there supra all trac or is there any way else. How costly would this be???? It would be nice to have all trac and a beafy engine to go along with it. So my idea would be to just use the tranny , other front componits and sell the enigine...WELL??????

Not strong enough

I believe that even if this would work. A normal 6m an up will pretty much destroy the diffs on the celica all trac. Cool Idea. Especially on Corollas. But I've heard it being too limited to what it can handle.

If somebody can correct me on this, but I think they can only take 250 hp max :?

snow is great fun, if your any good at driving.

and i must add... my supra, with no weight in the tank, bald 245s, and my heavy foot, is much easier to drive than my ranger, with a full tank of gas, brand new 195 allseasons, and 300lb of weight in the back.

MUCH more controllable, and even with 3x the air space, heats up just as quickly.

Front axles thru the pan? Transplant 4Cyl? Good Idea, But the front end weight would kill the natural(Perfect) balance of these cars-When I lived in snow country I used to occasionally do unintentional donuts  -Would go home and get the truck-Is anyone out there running Snow tires on their soop and how do they work?-Mike

Ahh, come on Jamie, driving around here in the rain isn't that bad. Of course, having a tuned 6M vs. a stock 5M wouldn't help, and the 5-spd I'm sure makes it more controlable, but still...
Hehe, Just ask Wade T what happens when you over throttle my 6M on wet pavement. Even on the freeway @ 60 mph!

It's a sideways kinda thing!!

AHAH, yes!! That 6m car of Jamie's hauls serious ass and it's NA! I've never been in or driven a car that had better and more powerful throttle response!!

I hate rain too. I haven't washed the 85 since Sept and it looks like hell!

Get some decent tires! And if you can't for the stock rims (which you can't), get new rims! Its funny, I just got that 82-98 Supra book. Even back in 82 they were bitching about how poor the supras grip is in the snow and rain with the stock tires.

Hahaha!! Sorry Seamus, three different tires, same results. Just too much torque anywhere near WOT.

If SO3's won't do it,... Nothing will I'm afraid. I tried 'em and they failed my 6M/auto/4.30 test too. :D The tire guy had to swap em back off for free! (I promised to buy them and the wheels if they held) They were 225/50 15s and were no better than my 245/50 14's,...
He (the tire guy) was a *little* peeved.
Jamie
PS Wade drove it with 245/50/14s and 4.10's

i never had a problemin winter driving, the 2 times i wiped out is because i was driving stupid, the 2 times i got half stuck once was from driving stupid and the other was having a foot tall drift around my car. i used eagle t/r's 215 in width. Sagging suspension created so much camber that i just dug in, good wet and dry traction, now i have 1.3 inch lowering srings and it sits about the same.

I was driving on the freeway a few weeks ago. it was raining and I was in the fast lane. The guy (or gal) in front of me finally got over (I think we were doing about 55) and I floored it. I forgot to look that the boost controller to see what it was set at. It was at the highest setting (~11psi). As soon as the turbo spooled the back end decided the front end was too slow and drifted out quite quickly. Everyone around me hit their brakes and I had to check my pants.

I am running on 225/60/14 Aquaflow GTX's (Les Schwab tires) with ~25% left.

I'm running the Yokohama Avid S/T's (225\60 front 235\60 rear), which is basically an all season sport truck tire and they are great in the bad weather. Last winter I drove from 20 mile snorth of Philly to Quantico Va (223 mile trip) during that Major blizzard that hit the East Coast, with out a single problem... The only downside to these tires is they suck ass in the good weather. Definately gonna be my "Winter time" tires tho.

It's called traction control. In other words use your right foot properly. If your not smart you can wreck even the most fool proof best tired car around. Heck look at all the SUVs you see stuck in the ditch in a snow storm. I'm pretty sure the SO3s aren't even meant to be driven in the rain, although I've heard they are pretty good.

Pep Boys El cheapo Futuras never did me wrong in the snow, except let a little fun be had, although usually it was under control.

The SO3's design was originally developed as Bridgestone's F1 rain tire. It is considered to be the best wet tire out there by many enthusiasts and performance gurus.

You can read the Tire Rack's reviews on them if you like. :D

No need to I own a set of them. Never drove in the rain with them though. Great handling tire in the dry though. I'm pretty sure they are sold as a high performance summer only tire hence the reason I said they're not really meant for it. Although I've never had any problem driving on summer tires in the winter.
