Hey Guys,

Just a general question, does any one know where the siren sound comes from when 85's accelerate from 1st gear? I've only found it to be characteristic of 84's and 85's. My guess would be the tranny.

If by Siren sound, you mean a whistle sound, almost like a turbo spooling but much MUCH softer, its just the sound of the intake. It gets much more pronounced with more intake mods (as well as developing an awesome growl when your in the power band of the motor).

Oh boy.....

Siren sound????? Need more of a description here. As others have mentioned, it could be either air being sucked into the air filter (assuming that you have a open element air filter), or are you talking about gear whine from the tranny when it's in 1st gear???

Or as Zank mentioned, is it coming from your radio speakers (a sign that your noise filter on the radio has taken a dump).

Hey guys,

Well, my Supra is pretty much stock and I have no intake modifications. I think I may have described it wrong. Its more like a whine, like someone had described previously, from the gear box. I noticed it on all 85's.

It sounds pretty cool. Non-Supra enthusiasts always accuse me of having a turbo on the car.

Blowers whine, turbos sing. Is the whine very subtle and barely noticeable or does it get loud? The 1st gear in my 85 had a very faint whine as well, but the sound was very faint. A loud gear type whine coming from the trans. can be from the gear lube level being too low or from worn gears, bearings, etc. in the trans.. Does it only whine in 1st or other gears as well.
