I am in the process of having a 2.5 inch exhaust put on. Its costing me 130 with a straight pipe where the resonator is and a cat and all the way back. I would appreciate any oppinions on how certain mufflers will sound. I am considering a apexi N1 muffler? what do you guys think....

Depends on how loud you are looking for, style, ect. There are a lot of universial mufflers out. You can always go with a tuneable muffler also... cuz that mmmmmmmm gets annoying on the highway 8)

i want it loud but not to the point where i wanna shoot someone or where cops will mess with me. ya know. and style doesn't really matter. i just want it to sound good and not ricey. Like a supra should sound. Would the resonator thats on it stay on it or would taking it off be way too loud?

Resonator usually quiets it down some, so I'd leave it on if it's in good shape or maybe get a new one. I can't help you out exactly with what you want for a muffler since I just slapped a universial autozone special on it to make it loud 8) But go to an autoparts store specializing in mods...look around in there and ask the clerk some information on what you are exactly looking for and ask them to show you some things on what they think you would like. Thats the best advice I can give. :)

ive got a dynomax, its loud, but not obnoxiously so...
for example, ive got an average cell phone, and when im holding it on my drivers side, with the window rolled down, and i gun it, people can hear my car, but its not loud.

not sure how else to explain it, cause pretty much everything else is subjective.

going to record a soundbite soon

sounds good tho :)

Depending on if the Apexi muffler is a straight thru type, I think it could be pretty loud. I had a Magnaflow muffler (3" straight thru) with no resonator, but cat still attached, and the car was sooooo loud. Guys on motorcycles would turn around to see what was behind them. I put on a magnaflow resonator too, it help quite a bit. Still fairly loud, but smoother.

I've had my muffler-no new piping-and a new cat. With no resonator the damn thing sounds loud the first moment I had it welded. So loud that once a while when i drive on main streets cars parking near the curb would have their alarms go on. i've had it since 2001-yes annoying deep/throtty sound especially if you're taking long trips.
So loud i don't even talk on cell phone while driving-saying too much 'huh'!

Go to PowerTech's web site. That's where I got mine and I like the way it sounds. They have various styles to choose from.

Go with the Apex-i N1 muffler. it sounds good, real nice deep tone. Dont go with that magnaflow, all the guys in my town have that thing and it sounds like shit, literally shit!! Anyevent, and it should come with a silencer if you decide you like the sound with silencer better.

I like to assume that exhausts under $1oo on Ebay are knockoff's. You may get lucky and find one for under a hundred, but it's probably used. Anyway alot of the exhausts on Ebay are knockoff's, if they say the exhaust type followed by "Style" it's most likely a knockoff. This seller might be able to help you out,

The price may look steep, but these retail for about $220-$250.. Good luck with your Exhaust mod. 8) I hope to order my exhaust by the end of next month.. I'll PM you if when I get this mod done..

My Pipe

My set up is headers into a 2 1/4 inch pipe with one semi straight through front muffler and three inline resonators and i have been able to remove that mmmmmmmm sound that drives you nuts!! I do not have a cat as the car is running on leaded. i have a nice resonator (stainless steel) on the back which has a 4inch outlet. Sounds great and goes hard!!

Enjoy
