They try and try, but they just can't beat the I6!

Knuckleheads!

Rather annoyed a Lexus LS300 when he realized he wasn't going too far today, too... They should beat a near-stock 5MGE, shouldn't they :?: Didn't get a good race from a stop, though... Those newer exhaust systems sure do stink when somebody runs them..

Well, as much as I hate to say it, the SRT-4 is a fast little car (new Neon with a turbo). I had a salesman showing me one, and while it looks like a ricey neon, if it had awd instead of just fwd, I would seriously think about it. Its a 14 sec. car, so while the 7M-GTE Mk IIs while still blow it off, us stock 5M owners need to be wary of these things.

Your complete lack of respect for the neon tells me you aren't an autocrosser. Go to an autox with some veteran drivers in acr neons, prepare to get spanked hard.

STS neon beats me by 3-1/2 seconds on average. Not to mention he is the best driver I have seen.

Respect all cars, except 6cyl mustangs, they are crap.

but put that same driver of the neon in a better car guess what? He's going to do better. While it is true that if you put an excellent driver in a neon he'll perfom well, put someone of the same skill in a better car and guess what? he'll do better. If Lance Armstrong bought his bike at Walmart do you think he'd be winning the Tour?

Hey cant we all just get along? if not then move it to ISUPRA they like that stuff.

and what toyman meant is that it is the driver more than the car that wins the autocross the same kickass neon driver would do just as well in another car. Save the neon love fest for a neon forum. MK2s rule here

OK I'll dumb it down for you...

If you are a crappy driver, no car and no ammount of money spent on your car will make you a good driver.

If you are a good driver, you can make even a crappy car fast.

Should I draw a picture to illustrate? Or do you have it now?

Guys...come on now. Is it POSSIBLE for you to have a discussion without getting insulting? Ease up - it's just a misunderstanding. Relax, have a beer (or your favorite beverage and move on).

I think you both understand each other...at least I hope you do. If not, I'm going to recommend a good marriage counselor... :twak:

sorry man, i was posting at my other car forum (www.hardforum.com: cars), which has a decidedly different atmosphere. we have quite a bit of jabbery over there, and it's all taken in fun. however, your comments are noted, and as pictured by my avatars, i understand the error of my ways.

I get my ass kicked by this neon for two reasons.

a.) It is faster than my car in their current states, once I get struts, front swaybar, and hoosiers, it will be up for debate.

b.) He is a better driver, with something of 15x my experience.

Now, driver makes a big difference, but a good driver in that neon, and a good driver in the mk2, neon will win because it is a faster car.

Well, the original post was about a standard straight-line race. AutoX ain't the same, it's apples and oranges. I've yet to encounter a neon set up for a drag that was worthy of my respect (haven't encountered a SRT-4 tho). This is from my mostly stock '84 point of view. Haven't been to a curvy track yet... although it sounds like so much FUN! :)

Maybe it's just me.... but if the neon was a way awesome car, wouldn't we see more of 'em in magazines and such? They are cheap and plentiful like a civic.

they are in magazines, just to a lesser degree than hondas et al, if only mostly because of opinions like the ones in this thread.

however, i suddenyl feel obliged to remind everyone that the supra was the 1982 sports import of the year when it was released.

Know a guy that sells used cars. Buys them from auctions and resells.
He says you can pick up a 4 year old Neon for about a thousand bucks and still no wholesaler buys'm. Its gotta make you wonder why.
because the market is flooded with them - they're like cavaliers and such, and 4 year old neons would've had the 2.4 sohc, which is known, like the mkIII, for eating meadgaskets.
