Ok, so what exactly difference in sound, and performance does it make in a normal box, and a box with a plexi front?

I have a small bandpass box with an Infinity 10" subwoofer inside it. There is no plexyglass window in it. It was designed and built by a local stereo shop here in Fresno....roughly a 2' x 2' cube and it fits neatly behind the rear seats.
I don't know what the advantage (if any) other than cosmetics would be to putting a plexy glass window on one side. It's ported on both sides of the motor board and suits my need for bass perfectly.

I have two subwoofers, 2 12in DHD's 2000 watts each, i have them in a pretty small box for 12inchers, its roughly 3ft lenght,2ft width, and about 1.5 ft height, its enclose but on the sides it has two openings to let the air out, the bass in my car is good, the rearview mirror shakes like crazy, so do the side view mirrors, u can feal the doors shake, the whole hatch with the spoiler shake like crazy, the seats shake and you can feel the bass pretty much it makes your whole body shake LOL, there pretty loud given the fact im only supplying 800 watts of total power to the 4000 watts it can hold
From what i know mostly from the guys at the stereo shop they told me with plexi glass the bass notes hit harder, than the regular boxes. I can say i agree with them cuz they had display boxes that both had a regular box with a 12in, and a plexi glass box with a 12in, and by comparing both i noticed that with plexi glass it hit harder than a regular box well thats just my opinion, i would of gotten a plexe glass box but it has 100 bucks for it instead of the 35 i spent with my current box

99% of cabinet "performance" from a non monitor grade speaker as these mass market, seriously f*kn annoying, filling rattling subs are, comes from the shape/volume of the cabinet/enclosure their in. The plexi is purely asthetic and you couldn't hear an audible difference or even measure one without special equiptment. It is very easy to think you can hear a difference, usually because you think you should or want to. A true "side by side" test would mean running both sets of speakers from the EXACT same amp with you and the second set of spkrs in the EXACT same location as the first. Hitting an A/B switch at a stereo shop is not accurate. All of course........IMHO. 8)
No difference in the sound, in this case, it's all asthetics.
The difference is in the internal box design. As an example, do some research on the design differences between a bandpass setup, and a isobaric setup. It's all in the baffle's inside the box & speaker placement.
It's "possible" that the IASCA related website's may have some link's reference's, otherwise, you'll have to do some homework/internet search on "car stereo/audio".

you guys are probably right, like i said in my post it was my opinion, and yes the size of the box does matter and where you put the box, also since the mkII are hatch back there in their own like a big box for the woofers especially when you have the windows closed i can say this cuz i can feel the diffrence in my car,
for a nube... i highly recommend a simple sealed box.
read the instructions/specs for your sub, find out the recommended volume for a sealed enclosure, then go to a reputable stereo place and ask for a premade, sealed enclosure of that volume for whatever inch size your sub is.
way way way easier than trying to design a bandpass box, cause with those, you need to decide what order (1,2,3,5,6th and there are others)
what size, what internal baffling, infinite baffle or not, windowed or not, material to line the inside, if any, material for the outside, what construction material to use and so on and on and on... you get the idea.

hey man thas a pretty sweet setup, a few questions for you, how much did that cost, how much watts are your woofers, and your amps, for me thats a little to extreme and too costly from the looks of it. hey if you gots the money more power too you, but i just go for performance instead of looks lolKCheng said:check this out
