Uhmmm.... He said 7M-GE, not 7M-GTE.

Plan on using the 7M-GE ECU, AND the wiring harness!!!! Certain items on a 7MGE (like the distributor & the alternator) are in different locations, compared to the 5M.

Also, talk to Jeff Sawyer (jefe_not), he has the 7M-GE motor swap.

7mge vs. 7mgte includes all the same principles.Takes the exact same amount of effort/time to do correctly.Have wired 1 of those also.

Actually, there are alot of differencesbetween the two... The later motors (post 89) have better motor management, better flowing heads, and a slightly more agressive cam (or so I was told once, never did bother verify if there was any difference in the cams..). I know the later model 7M-GTE manifolds flow better than the earlier ones, so I would imagine that the same would apply to the N/A mani.. tho i could be wrong.

Another route that you could consider, is a 2JZ-GE. Its about the same amount of work I would think, and is a healthier motor than the 7M... Just a thought :)

I'm getting this 7mge for 400 dollars. Thats why i'm kinda animant about swapping in the 7mge. I want it turbo but what's the point in spending the extra 300 bucks for the 7mgte when the turbo and piping is getting replaced with some better stuff. any way i'm gonna order this motor from
http://www.japandomesticmotor.com/toyota.asp i've never delt with this company before doe's any one have any info on them?

Just a thought, It might be better to save up and spend the other $300 for the 7mgte. From what i understood the 7mge was never intended to be turbo'd. The engine componets and stuff were weaker and not ment to take the stress from increased horsepower like turbos. Plus, the 7mgte is already set up for turboing...i'd think it would just be easier to buy the 7mgte and save yourself the time later with have to get all the seperate parts to build the turbo system? But hey, what do I know... ;-)
Good luck!
Brian
When you finish maybe you could post how much you spent overall, just so others would have that as a reference.

The biggest advantage to the turbo engine is in the electronics not the motor. As far as putting the 7M into the car you can run it on the 5M electronics if you want. You use the 5M harness, ECU, AFM, and injectors. The fuel injection system on the 7MGE is remarkably just like the 5M. All the sensor are the same outputs (AFM has like 200 more I think though). The only major thing you'll need to do is rewire the 7M distributor pickups to be like the 5M setup. The 5M has one pickup and two flags on the shaft. The 7M has two pickups and one flag. Basically wire the two sensors together and it will mimic the 5M pickups output. You need to extend all the 5M harness t-stat housing wires over the cam cover to the other side of the motor (use 5M sensors here). You also need to switch plugs for the TPS and ISC valve. You also need to fix the HG as well on a 7MGE (same BHG problem).

Personally if you are going to turbo the motor buy a 7MGTE and install the 7MGTE electronics. Its actually probably cheaper to buy the required GTE parts for the JDM motor than buy a turbo, manifold, RRFPR, oil lines, etc for JDM GE motor. You'll also have a more upgradeable system this way as well.
