Which swap?

The 6M-GE = Direct drop in
The 7M-GTE = Not totally hard, but not easy
The 1JZ-GTE = Slightly harder than 7M
The 2JZ-GTE = Hardest swap of all.

The most popular swap is the 7M-GTE. No fabrication needed, just drop it in and use some parts from your 5m. For the 1JZ you'll need to use different engine mounts and you'll have to extend the wiring harness if your car is left hand drive. For the 2JZ you'll have to do a lot more then the 1JZ. The 2JZ is definitely the hardest of the swaps. Norbie has done a 2JZ swap and documented just about everything, check out his site, norbie.net

If this is all new information to you, use google and you'll find several walk throughs on how to most of these swaps.

From something I saved from the Yahoo list.

There is no way a JZA70 Supra 1JZGTE engine fill fit into a MK2
Supra. Trust me I know! The sump on the JZA70 is at the rear of the
engine and the MK2's have a front sump. The engine mount point on the
block are also in a different position. You would have to buy a JZX81
Chaser engine/front cut to fit in a MK2. That's what I've used. And
yes us Aussies have beaten you'se with a 1JZGTE MK2 conversion. See
my car at:

Main thing to remember is to make sure that you have purchased a ENTIRE front cut, not just the motor.

Several smart Aussies hace succesfully used a JZA70 half-cut for their MA61 conversions - with the Chaser sump.

Actually, I wish I had done the same (I'm using the whole JZX90 Chaser half-cut, with ABS, 2nd traction control butterfly, LOTS of extra wire and sensor spaghetti coming out of the ECU and the crazy hydro fan)

I think JAZE was going to make a step-by-step guide at one point. Once I get my pics sorted, I could probably conrtibute a bit to it.

Go the 1JZGTE Supra!
