does anyone know if it's ok to use synthetic gear oil in the trans and diff of the mk1's?

also, i think i remember the trans uses 80w90, is that correct?

and how much does it use?

I do believe the standard transmission uses 80W90 oil. I do believe that it's ok to switch to synthetic gear oil for diff and tranny(75W90). I put synthetic in my old '80 tranny and it didn't bother it.

great.

do you remember how much fluid the tranny uses?

i don't have any manuals anymore. i have to get new ones now.

I filled up the transmission until the oil came out of the fill hole and let it flow out until it stopped. I'm not sure if that was the right procedure, but I think it took just less then 3L. it was a while back though, so I'm not sure.

EDIT: googled it and the capacity is 2.5qts. which is ~2.64L
