started to put an alpine deck in today, been without any noise other than the engine (no that thats a bad thing) for 2 weeks, figured it was about time for some tunes. the wiring harness thing in that area is all cut, connected and short as hell, and there are no speakers. so now i have to go spend more money.... speakers, install, etc.
and doing the tune up at the same time, we discoverd that the rotor had been slightly misaligned, and that, coupled with the fact the cap only had one screw in it, made a but of a mess, and was probably screwing with my fuel milage, performance, and such.

off to spend some more money which im almost out of.

now also discovered that the distributor is prob screwed. that would be why it ate a rotor today. now hopefully i can get this other one from this guy and fix it that way, otherwise its 5 days, and money im almost out of.

the previous owner of my car cut the harness too, i had to to a junkyard and cut that harness then rewire my harness and buy one of those aftermarket wiring kits before i got mine working again, took me like 4 hours....but i got it. good luck wit the distruibutor.

i thought all our rotors just slid on and off they can't be off or mis aligned? did somene put in an aftermarket distributor.???

no, stock distributor, i wasnt sure how to describe it, so i just called it misaligned. im guessing the play in the shaft allowed it to vibrate at higher speeds (aka over 4k rpm) thereby hitting the leads in the cap, gouging them, and destroying the rotor. for some reason, the car doesnt run very well in said condition.
so now while waiting for a distributor, i have to keep the engine below 4k, its really hard. so many trying to race me. oh well, most of them still lose.
im getting a+b sound to do all my wiring, 3 hourts and $120, i think its worth it, especially since im at work at the time anyway.

sometimes having someone fix a previous owners mistake isnt a bad idea, saves a lotta headache.

that's what my dad did when we installed my age-old Alpine deck. when we went to an audio place to get the Metra pocket, i also asked for the Metra wiring kit, but the guy gave me some bs like "no, they don't make those anymore", so when we got home, my dad decided to cut up the wire harness before i could stop him.

I just got off the phone and checked with a local car stereo dealer that handles Metra accessories. The wiring harness adapter for our cars is still available, and they had a few in stock.

1. Wiring Harness
I highly recommend using a METRA wiring harness (part #70-1398). With this harness you will not have to cut and ruin the clean Toyota wiring. The harness should cost around $10 USD, a small fee for a much cleaner, and easier install.

There's no reason to hack the plugs off the wiring harness and make a mess of things in your console, when you can buy one of these and then wire it to your stereo.

scosche also sells the harness, but its no where near as good as the metra one... find that in all their products too, lol
