looks like supra history just took a little nosedive:

oh dear... what's this? an L-type? with a 3.73 LSD STOCK!!??!?!?! OH NOES!

seriously, what the hell? this just throws another hockeystick in the tricycle wheel. I don't get it. discuss this please, any ideas? ANYWAYS:

HOLY SHIT MKII's KICK ASS!!!!!!!! I've never, ever driven one before and... wow, what a fun little time I had. Of course, the open exhaust and MASSIVE backfiring on decelleration made it that much cooler.

This one has a few issues that need to be worked out, namely:
-oil change - asap
-coolant change - post asap
-has very bad valve tap/clicking all the time. i dont' like it one bit. needs to be fixed... could be expensive.
-also burns oil excessively above 5000rpm. This is due to blow by as a result of improperly worn-in piston rings when the engine was rebuilt a few years ago. problem is... there was a metric shit-ton of work done to it... and the papers for it are all very confusing. I absolutely MUST go find the guy who did the work and figure out what's going on with it. Nearest I can tell... it could be stock except for the pacesetter header, or it could be a 6m-ge... i don't know. it could also be anything in between. one thing's for sure... it doesn't feel like 190hp... but then burying the 140km/h speedo seemed a bit too easy to do, so my judgement could be off. This repair will be expensive... engine will PROBABLY have to be pulled... new rings and the like. not going to worry about this for a while. simple solution -> stay below 5000rpms and it's happy. too bad there's a lot of power in that last 1500rpms :(

that's enough talking... on with the pictures!!!!

H4 headlights from parts car supra... INSTALLED. p-type leather seats... INSTALLED.

the first of many rally-related stickers. hehe.

odds are it's going to be nice tomorrow, so if i have the camera i'll grab some more good pics. the wax job on it is simply stunning how good it is. the car looks mint except for the rear passenger side.. but who cares! the inside is PERFECT. of course, it doesn't start yet... so we had to push start it several times today, but tahts' fine. starter swap is coming soon.

more at http://timber.rbss.net/efavideos -be SURE to check out the movies page... got a little sideways action earlier today.

cool! Neat car. The 3.73 w/lsd ltype thing isn't that rare. The lsd was optional on all of the ltypes, and if they had w58s then in 82 it was a 3.72 rear end. Theres an ltype at ralphs surrey identical to yours, even had the 3.72 w/lsd. Interior is pretty good on it but its been there for quite awhile now. Hey, I call dibs on the rear end if it doesn't knock and your willing to sell or trade. I have spare 4.3s and a 4.1.

i already have a 4.30LSD that we're swapping in, but i'm going to keep this one as a backup incase we blow the other one away.

i'm not sure what's wrong with my pictures... the server is really, really, REALLY slow right now and i dont' know why. hopefully it will stop sucking soon.

Car looks to be in pretty good shape. Better than all the oxidized MkIIs I see cruising around here with a zillion miles on them. You need to get a set of P-type rims on there ASAP. L-types look much better with them.

we have to clean up our P-type rims - they are messy as hell. That's low on the priority list for now though.

I'm not sure of others who have put P-type rims on thier L-type but be warned... I have 225/60's on the front and hitting big bumps will scrape the tires. The Falkens I used to have (they seem much thicker than the dunlops I have now even though they are both 225's) got really tore up on the front drivers side. Even causing a peice of the metal in the wheelwell to bend out where it scraped alot. The dunlops I have now are getting a bit scraped up but I'm being more careful with these. Next set of tires I get I'll try getting smaller tires.

how would that work?... is it because the tires are wider than stock L-type tires? That would mean a difference in the inner fender makeup of L-types and P-types so as to accomodate the wider tire. that doesn't make any sense.

What stock tyre size did the L-tye come with? The difference in inner fender between P-type and L-type does make sense, as the inner fenders between a flared Celica GTS and non-flared GT are different to accomodate the 7" wheels with fat tyred, and 5.5" rims with skinny ones, respectively. There are pics on this forum elsewhere of a P-type with the flares removed. There is a big sheetmetal difference underneath!

My non-flared A6 celica had 185/70s (or something) on those same 5.5" alloys stock. I have the GTS/P-type rims with 205/60 tyres and lowered an inch or so no problems. Might get away with 215s without scraping, though some people say lowered springs scrape with 215s.

What has this got to do with your car? Well, I always assumed L-type front guards were similar to A6 celica front guards (umm fenders to you US blokes) , so the wheel/tyre clearance issues would be similar... buit I just looked at your pics again and the L-type seems to have mini-flares up front! Wow, never noticed that before. Definetly more flared than a non-flared celica. Wheel arches look wider, too.

I'm not pimping my car, i thought the pic would help :)

well, i'll see how it all plays out. the car has to be able to have suspension travel, as it'll spend most of its time on gravel. thanks for all the info though guys, at least i won't be surprised if it starts rubbing :D

There should be a very mint RA6 at the meet up here on the 20th. I guy who lives at my parents has this blue GTS. Hes had the entire thing stripped down to a shell and repainted inside and out, his wheels are immaculate and everyday he puts this heavy duty car cover on it, even when he parks it at work. Anyways, hes invited, hopefully he'll show.
