so im headed home after taking my g/f out for pizza and i end up next to a miata with one of those loud buzzing mufflers. he makes it odvious that he wants to run but it wasn't gonna happen on the road we were on. so i end up turning to get on the highway and pull up next to a yellow rustang at the light and he must have heard all the buzzing the miata made and got all excited. so hes revving it up a bit and looking in my direction.

now i got my girl in the car and the light goes green and we hit it. i try to be suttle about racing while my girl is in the car but i hit 2nd too hard and slam her head into the head rest. im about to shift into 4th and shes like "what the hell are you doing?", she didnt realize that she was in a drag race until the yellow rustang slowly started making its way past us and we are exceeding the 65mph speed limit. shes not dull or slow its just that she's used to me wrapping up the motor quite a bit as i like to put it :D

i was kinda surprised that i took the rustang off the line, and more so for as long as i did. i think he had problems hooking up cause he i could hear the faint sound of tires squealing over my system.

i dont like mustangs and i sure dont like them beating me so its time to start thinking about retiring the 5mge early and find some adequete means of power. :D

im not too fond of street racing but I was forced to put a Rustang in its place one night. i was just going home from work and this fool comes up to me at the light and starts to Rev his engine. i tried ignoring him but after two lights of him doing the same i got pissed off. the rustang was auto and convertable. i took him off the line then i backed off after like 60. that guy was MAD and at the next light he asked "are you TURBO" i just told him "no im not turbo and neither is my car  "

Same thing sorta happened to me (except for the self-control of not racing him for awhile...) I had a 85 GT revving me at the light, so when it turned, we both took off. I had him by about 1-1 1/2 cars at 65. I know that 80's Mustangs aren't all that stock, by I still was suprised by the outcome. Oh, it was an auto (I think I killed him so bad because I have a 5-speed and knew when to shift)

huh what

you stayed next to a mustang? was it 5.0? was it auto? was he even racing you, or was he playing with your emotions? i know lots of 5.0 and stock supras and not one supra can even hold a candle to the launch of a 5.0 with a manual! but an auto oh yea there really slow!!! :) not to be mean to ya just trying to be fair to all car models. and keep us supra guys in check. 8)

research your enemy friend. Not all 80s 5.0 mustangs are worth fearing. It wasen't till 86 I belive where their motors developed any serious power. 85 and less 5.0s had high 7s low 8s 0-60s I belive. By the late 80s early 90s they were into the 300 lbs/ft ballpark and into the 6s for 0-60s. Of course not all of them are stock either but its usally pretty easy to spot the stock early ones. With those their bark is much worse then their bite.

I would have to agree with this. I got romped from a rolling start by a late 80s stang. :( Never had a chance :x

these stangs must be auto's, and/or V6's, ur something is just wrong
not that im downing the MKII, but in the 1/4 basicly mustangs (5.0 5spd w/good driver) can kick the crap out of any supra when going mod per mod.

People fear mustangs way too much. Most mustangs aren't that fast at all. Look up the quarter mile times for them and you'll see why.
Even the newer 00'-02' mustangs don't break the 15s 1/4 mile time. The 80's mustangs being slower than that you can see why a 6m-ge can keep up with or beat one depending on drivers.
Stock they are true to thier nick names... ponies. Once modded is where they stand out.

re verb

#1 do you know of anybody in youth that has a stock stang???????? #2 exhaust on a stock stang will pick up around 6 tenths in the quarter! #3 like i said before i've had a 5.0 and have 2 mk2's and neither could hold a candle to the 5.0! mod's no mod's!!! case in point #4 even from 1982 the 5.0's had 250 lbs of torque, which means wupp ass on any stock mk2. thank you i'll be here all week be sure to tip the waitess. :D

oh ya and for the 00-02 stangs is that 2 valve or 4 valve because i am sure thats low 14's high 13's for 2 valves and 13:50's for 4 valves. cobras as of late 02 will be supercharged and they run 12's stock! i still keep up on mustangs because everybody in my area has one it like a desease here :? and stock mk2 thats 16's in the quarter stock and every tenth is a car length! are we starting to come around now?

I have raced a 2000 mustangGT w/flowmaster exhaust. My cousin's friends race alot and he called me up one day and said a guy with a stock mustang wanted to race me to show me they were fast (I had pointed out the day before to my cousin how they weren't as fast as most think so my cousin of course goes out and tells this guy I said that). He said he'd woop me so I headed out positive I would lose but have fun cause I love racing and it's all in good fun with us. We all figured even though he was mostly stock he'd still kill me but I ran him for fun since I don't turn down a race, I know my car is slow. We both launched with a little wheelspin and were even all the way down till near the bridge (that's where we have marked off for our little strip) where I started tiring out slowly. He barely pulled ahead and we finished with me at his back tire. True I am a good driver and he wasn't anything great but hey. Everyone was so shocked it was funny. I was even shocked. We ran again and same conclusion.

So either I have a REALLY powerful 6m-ge and run low to mid 14's or mustangs really do run 15+'s like I believe.

Found this while searching around.

I saw one of those Roush Mustangs at the last Goodguys show. It had the window sticker on the dash it was like $55k. I just couldn't believe anyone would pay $55k for a Mustang, I don't care how many stickers they put on it or how much horsepower it has. For that price range I think I'd be looking at a Z06 or a used Viper. I would be kinda curious to see how the newer Cobras with the IRS handle. That is the one thing about Mustangs, they handle and brake like &$#^. My dad had an early 90's Mustang for a commute car and that thing was absolutely scary to drive. They are fun to watch at AutoX though with the massive powerslides and such, although they get their *#% handed to them by a Miata (of course so would a MkII).

road and track

these guys are like mamas boys look up what they said a stock z28 runs they said if i can recall 13:80's and we all know thats bull [email protected]#t. car and driver got 13:20s spining on a regular basis. i due agree with you that they should not be feared because they are not fast!!! but then again tell me some body thats got a stock mustang that is a street racer, not some kid with a car payment thinking its fast. you and everyone on the planet know thats going to be the kid that can't drive worth crap. and has absolutly no clue what fast is. and i do believe you said 6mge isn't that 190hspwr? not tested by any magazine? the 5mge from what i here is a 16 sec. car right thats 160 hspwr right 30 is a big chunck of 190 so you do the math. bad drive more power terrible results, good driver not as powerful much better than average results. and road and track is tested by writers not drivers! mamas boys with better paying jobs. my opinion is just my opinion and am not trying to hurt noones feelings just stating what seems to me the obvious. most writers are dreamers thats why they write to dream up what they could have, should have, would have if they just had type of people. but again just my opinion.

look it up...

1982 Ford Mustang GT 8.0 N/A
1984 Ford Mustang SVO 7.9 15.8
1985 Ford Mustang GT 7.2 15.9
1987 Ford Mustang GT 6.7 15.3
1988 Ford Mustang GT 6.4 15.0
1990 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 6.4 14.9

Like I said, it wasen't till 85 where they developed any serious power. A stock 84+ mk2 can take a stock 85, assuming the mk2 driver knows his shit. That 250lbs/ft (don't remember what year the 250 kicked in) doesn't always help them. On the street most of them just sit there and spin their tires on line. And that 250 lbs/ft is just that, torque. Its great for the first 1/8 mile then after that their pathetic top end kicks in. Hp was pretty sad when they first came out. I was at the drag strip a couple of weekends ago, and there were lots of early 80s 5.0s running high 15s, 16s and even a couple in the 17s. Of course there were 5.0s running 14s, 13s and 12s too, but they were either alot newer or highly modified.
