In the wonderful state of CA, once this happens, you must go to a TEST ONLY station where the guys there are not allowed to help you in any way, they just tell you whether you pass or not. I've done some work on it since and it passes emissions just fine, but these TEST ONLY stations watch closely to every vehicle.
