could be : plugs, wires, egr, holes in intake track, fuel filter, cat, afm.
What exactly do you mean by Struggle? Does it kinda stumble, like its gonna stall and then catch itself, or does it just not wanna speed up?
check cam timing. the o2 sensor never turns on the check engine light, not in these cars, it isn't exactly considerd a priority error code. however if the check engine light is coming on you might wanna check your fuel pressure regulator. you car could be running excessively rich. do you smell gas in the exhaust system?
O2 sensor will flash a check engine light at freeway speeds sometimes if bad,but will not make the car stumble.
My guess is your fuel pump is on it's way out.Have a similar problem with my Cressida right now.I have check all but the pump,as it's a PIA to do,and I haven't had the time or space to tear the car that far apart."I really don't want to pull the damn tank   "
it does not want to speed up i can see the rpm go up but after 4000 rpm it goes fine and i had the fuel pump replaced last year im also guessing is the knock sensor but ill see wut u guys say
Tell us more about your car. Very low miles, only 23,000!!

Was it in storage for a long time? If so, when was it put back on the road?
What year is it?
Auto or 5 speed?

That info will help us to answer your questions better. For example, you mention knock sensor, only 85-86's have a knock sensor.
If you are not getting the check engine light when shorting the connector to set your timing, your TPS could be slightly out of whack. I had the same problem about 6 months back and someone here gave me that great tip. I don't remember if I had to turn it clockwise or counter, but it worked for me. Good luck with it - JB
sorry it has 230,000 i missed a 0 thanks for ur help if i have any more questions ill make shure to ask before doing

my car had 110,000 miles on it and the origional o2 sensor and it was shot to hell and my check engine light never came on. the error code was there but the light never came on. at autoshop101.com it talks about these ecu's and error codes and it also states the o2 sensor in older toyotas doesn't cause the check light to come on. only things that will cause severe drivability problems will trigger the light.

Do you mean earlier models or that O2 sensor stops working?
Autoshop101.com said this??? Oh boy....... :p

If the O2 sensor detects a lean air/fuel mixture coming out of the exhaust, it will make the CE light come on for a few seconds & store a code. Your CE light does come on when you start the car, correct???
