I was out driving my MK2 last week and my transmition just died on a hill.
A friend offered to give me a transmition out of his rx-7. My question is will a rx-7 transmition work with my MK2?

BTW- This is my first post and I have almost no experience working on cars so if this is a stupid question sorry in advance.

It probably wont work without lots of modification. You should be able to get a transmision for ma junkyard pretty cheap. You can get one from an 82-85 Celica and put your bellhousing on that if you cant find a supra. They both use the same transmission.

DOH!!!!!!

5-speed or Automatic????

If a 5-speed, then yes a W58 from either another 82 - 86 Supra, or a 82 - 85 Celica will work. If it's from a Celica, just swap out the R series bellhousing & install the MA bellhousing.

If it's a Automatic.... I don't think the bellhousing is removable from a A43DL/DE (someone correct me??). You may have to find another A43 off of another Supra.

Sorry for the lack of info on my first post. I drive a 85 supra, manual transmittion. When it stopped working the clutch pedal popped out and I heard a scrapping noise, it sounded like something was dragging on the ground, but when I checked the ground there was nothing there. I tried but couldnt get the car into 1st, it sounded like the clutch was grinding. A friend managed to drive the car home using just 1st and 3rd gear.

So is the transmittion the problem or could it be something else?
Thanks for the help. :D

it sounds like your clutch linkage came off some how, if your not comfortable or dont have the experience to do it yourself, you might want to have it looked at by a mechanic.

if you want to give it a shot, there is a cylinder about 3-4 inches long, that bolts to the bellhousing with two bolts, and presses on a lever which protrudes from the housing.
get the car up on some jack stands and take a look under there, see if it came loose or what happened.

its also possible your clutch gave up the ghost... ive heard people say they make evil noises when they go really bad.

Getting a transmission

My tranny went out and all I had left was fourth gear to get me home. I managed to find one in a salvage yard from an 85' for only 130 bucks. And what made it all the better was it was already pulled and on their shelf. It was clean and everything. I really got lucky you just have to look.
