I've polished some of the Toyota units before on previous Supras I restored using ultra-fine sandpapers called micromesh. These new repops I fully expected would also require hand-finishing. They just will need more work than I anticipated, indeed starting with much coarser grit sandpaper, probably even a little pinhole filler in spots and finally painting a topcoat. Oh well... I'll be anxious to see what others who go first will do as I am in no hurry. I also expected that this would be the ONLY batch of reproductions we'll ever get made and I'd better get while the getting was good.

I'm sure everybody were expecting plug and play parts. For future potential buyers, I know there is at least 2 other sources for theses. One is in France, where Guido had a specialized shop do at least one set, and there is a guy in the US with an 85 SDR that his body shop made them. The results were in both case very pleasing.

Heard from Billy on this, there were instructions jammed in the bottom of the shipping tube that I didn't see. Makes much more sense on the appearance. I wish they were not primed, oh well.

INSTRUCTIONS
"DO NOT BEND THE MOLDINGS" As with any plastic it will weaken or break, The is just enough flex to contour were needed.
As with most aftermarket body parts they need to be finished. Place on a flat surface and use a wet sand 400-600 grit sand paper. They are coated with a special high build primer for plastics to accept paint.it might look rough but will sand smooth very easy and will start to turn a grey color when sanded, this will also allow if in the future if you get any dings in the molding they can be repaired and repainted. recommend using a semi gloss SEM or a semi gloss Transtar 2 in 1 trim spray paint but the primer will accept most paints that are not enamel based.
each molding has auto grade weather resistant adhesive applied, so line them up prior with painters tape and clean surface well before applying as you only get one try
Each molding has a letter on the bubble wrapping, each part is made to fit a exact area. you will need to pay attention to what molding is for the right or left sides.
A - front fenders, B - Rear front fenders, C - Doors, D - Rear quarter bend doors, E - in front of rear bumper

That's good to know. I only pulled out a few of the pieces so I didn't see the instructions at the bottom of the tube.

I'm honestly a little dumbfounded that some of you are okay with the bait and switch you got here after nearly two years. I'm definitely glad I got my money back.
How is it a bait and switch?

On the picture that shows the stock moulding next to the finished aftermarket moulding wasn't there a caption that explained this is what they would look like AFTER final finishing?
I spoke to Billy months ago and he told me about the finish being in primer because people were asking for different finishes. He had one guy asking for matte, someone else asking for glossy. Someone else wanting it in primer because they might paint it body color. He's one guy working on these. If he had to customize each set they would never get done. His solution was to put it in a sandable ready primer.

We ordered replacement mouldings from an AFTERMARKET supplier. EVERY after market part I have ever had to deal with has needed finishing/fitting/sanding/priming/painting.

For example the Duroflex body kit for the Mark II required pie cutting, massaging and many on the car - off the car test fits before it lines up. I had a guy locally that was doing one about 10 years ago and he got fed up and sold it. He expected to just bolt it on. He never had to deal with aftermarket parts before.

These mouldings on the other hand are the correct profile. Made of a material that can take a door ding AND be repaired. Shipped in a special primer that sticks to plastic and once sanded will take the paint of your choice. Three steps are already done for you! The fit is already correct, the primer is on the piece and the tape is applied.

Would you rather a fully customized finished set in the color or finish of your choice for 3x the cost? Or an original bag of rust? Or none at all?
Guys, the hard part is done. Someone ACTUALLY made new moudings for our 36 + year old cars. They fit right, have tape on them and are , with a bit of sanding, ready for paint. Now go take an afternoon with your favorite car and sand, paint and apply your mouldings.

I'm looking forward to it.

first off i have no issues with anyone here , and im not trying to start argument of any kind, just sharing my thoughts on the matter.

i have also not received mine yet and will update when i do.

-- the pictures we where shown at the start shows finished product -- this is not what is being shipped out.
-- the communication for this project has been lacking at best - i understand everyone has a life but this was beyond that. Direct communication was possible, but i feel i should not have to check the status, there should have been A LOT more updates.

so I feel based on the original pictures, the cost. the time waited, and amount of communication, that a finished product is not out of line.
or there should have been a group post explaining what you will get and what it will look like.

I was glad to see the project get done and happy to help support it and either way il keep them unless i feel that they are just not usable, but honestly i was expecting more.

I am sorry for stirring the pot here, that was not what I was trying to do. We are all big boys and girls (or however you identify) and can make our own decisions on how we want to spend our money. I missed the part about final finishing, I missed the instructions included with the moulding, and I started to run my mouth before discovering points one and two. What I do know, is that I have a complete set of trim NLA that I can spend a couple of hours prepping for the gloss black look my 85 had from the factory.

If anyone actually followed up or chooses to follow up now and successfully purchases reproductions from either source, that would be great, please let us know. But I just didn't expect those to turn into anything.

OMG! I'm working on a British car and dealing with the mid-line door trim right now. The repop trim came pre-drilled but several of the holes are just ever so slightly off so it won't go on straight. The best solution would seem to be to fill the holes in the door skin and then re-drill the door to match before painting the car. That's probably equal to or maybe more hours work than sanding and painting it's Supra equivalent. I don't like doing extra work any more than the next guy, but it happens so often, particularly with Chinese repop Corvette and Mustang parts, that I can't let it phase me. I just have to deal with it and be thankful to have anything at all to work with.

Mine came in a couple days ago, hope he packs your better than mine. I haven't heard back from him regarding a refund or resending a set that hasn't been damaged. Finish was not like in the update video at all either.

Damn!
Sorry to see that. I would hope the shipping company would step in assuming Billy had coverage on them.
Got mine in and like everyone else I am disappointed in the finish. For $1300 CDN roughly, I was hoping they were ready to rock. Oh well. Guess I’ll have my painter finish them up prior to spraying the car.
I’ll try and get some pics

Received Friday 7/14/2022 minor damage to the shipping container at one end

Total cost $1128.68 ($250 deposit Feb 2021, $550 in May 2022, and $328.68 in July 2022)

- of that $143.68 is for shipping ( $143 in shipping, for a cardboard tube wrapped with duct tape on the ends with bare minimum bubble wrap... )

A 10" long piece of 3" pvc pipe costs about $30 (cut in half so about $15-$20 per set) This would be what I would consider acceptable packaging for something of this value and wait time when paying over $140 in shipping. I hope that those of you who had damaged shipping containers are able to get reimbursed, but i can only imagine the frustration of waiting over year and half with this kind of money tied up only to received your long-awaited product damaged...

I'm not going to comment to much on the quality (yet), seeing as my set looks better than the others shown...

Received Friday - opened them up with no damage. Will they require finishing and painting? Yes. Is this a huge deal? No.

People wonder why we never get repro stuff for our cars - this is why. Whenever someone does make something it's just a huge pile of whining about price and quality.

NOT TRUE! Let's not discourage would be makers of parts for our Mk2s since the lord knows they are hard to come by. There have been plenty of good parts made by forum participants that were not subject to poor reviews.

I ordered a set of these and they are in transit. I appreciate the critical observations made here and indeed they are instructive as to how to improve quality in terms of promotion, production, shipping and caring about members who paid $1000+ for these.

Received mine today - the tube was damaged thing seem to be in order

the Tape arround the middle was from USPS -- so my guess is that they "tried" to tape it back together

Actual product looks like this:

The only thing missing was the instructions - but i copied them from above.
I moved all the parts into a PVC tube and placed them on the parts shelf where they will probably sit, right next to all the other parts that i have yet to do anything with. :)

Nothing was cracked, surprised me too!
The instructions are missing and I also asked fur the 3d printed sunroof rail guides, but they where not in the tube.
I have to ask built if the guides where shipped.

Other then that it looks too have survived the shipping.
But not due to care during shipping.
