Hey I was wondering if anyone has made vented headlamp covers yet like the ones available for the mk3? If not I might make a mold for them and was wondering if anyone else was interested and how much their willing to pay for them.

"Possibly" in, depending on price. (damit, I just now realized that it means the nose bra has to come off.... My answer is still a "maybe").

I've talked to Keith Hart, who has one on his 89T. Says it looks cool, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference in regards to incoming air.

BTW, are you just going to do the right side, or both??? The MKIII guys only do the right, since that's where the intake is located. The left side, they just leave it stock.. Nothing there behind the left headlight, except for maybe battery vapors :D

<--- DOH..... 1 more to go!!!

Ok Im going to make both sides for my supra but if I make a mold to duplicate them you can choose if you just want the right side. The car should run somewhat cooler but nothing dramatic. Just mainly for looks. I'll probably leave that little grill insert out unless you guys think it looks better. Im still unsure how much clearance i have underneath the headlamp so the vent can go downward and how sturdy these will be since their only made out of fiberglass. Im hoping to get a perfect set by summer, we will have to see.

Could be something I may be interested in depending on price. I wouldnt think sturdiness would be much of a concern as it is just a "cover" but maybe you could reinforce the edges with some metal sheet or wire.
Good luck on fab project

I have some carbon fiber that I'm going to be messing with this winter. LMK if you want to give that a try.

If you've got an open element filter, could get some cooler air in that way. Otherwise, you're breathing just whats come through the radiator. Could be especially beneficial to the turbo guys who need every half degree they can get. Rice? No, rice by definition is something thats very obvious and totally useless, like speed shop stickers or tinfoil wings mounted atop brackets made of tinker toys.

Hey guys,
Joseph I might take up your offer on the carbon fiber but im going to use fiberglass first since thats cheaper to start off with and make mistakes with.
As for the price I would love to get the set for under $100 made. For what the mk3 owners pay for them is just rediculous ($150+)
And yes if everything turns out well I will get them painted for an extra cost.

My mechanic and I were messing around with putting louvers in a metal cover but the shops machine was dull and it didn't quite come out right. Still working on it.

the only way youd get cooler air from this mod is to also cut a hole in the metal between the air filter and headlight. on mkii's its solid, on mkiii's there is a stock hole. not hard to cut out but it still would have to be cut.

I had thought about this before and with the headlights up with the air rushing around the light Im thinking it might (im not sure on this) cause a vaccume (sp) effect over the vent hole. It would be something you would have to try out at speed.

Just a thought.. not sure if Im correct

The easy cheap way to "wind tunnel test" is to tape yarn on the car and see where the yarn goes at speed.
