But it will do. Finally, after years and years of rental living, myself and my wife are finally getting a house, in little Mission BC. The place is about 5 minutes from the giant Lordco (the big parts store here) and Mission Raceway (drag strip and track). And it has a shop. A big one. :D Not quite Phil sized, but big enough for all 4 of our cars 8)

Anyways, I'm so happy I had to share. FINALLY!!!!

Congratulations Seamus!!!!

When can we start shipping up the contents of our "closets" for storage? I've got the first 15 boxes packed and readly to label, just let me know the address......

Too bad we aren't all close enough to come up and give you a hand moving......

I can see it now... a constant progression of Supras, each with a big piece of furniture hangin 2/3rds way out the hatch, held with a bungee cord!

Congrats on the new place. Wise move choosing a place with a 4-car garage already built. First thing required for a car hobby is ample real estate to park them and work around them. Development trends, however, at least locally are toward smaller and smaller lots, 5' side yards, front-entry 20' double garages, and 25' setbacks. No way can you park more than 4 cars and any project is going to take up the whole garage, kicking your daily drivers out into the weather (carports are considered taboo now) or into the street even. Oh, and forget having guests over! Also, trends in city zoning regs are becoming more strict and making it impossible in many places to accomodate a car hobby. Even if you've got a large lot in an older neighborhood, most places limit accessory garage square footage to no more than a 2-car and often specify that you use brick or similar building material to the main structure making that 2-car garage very expensive. I moved last year and built mine (which is actually a relatively inexpensive metal building) just under the wire before Fort Worth adopted zoning laws that would have prevented it. If I wanted to build a 4-car garage today, I'd have to move to an adjacent county, outside any city limits (the suburbs are even more strict than Fort Worth), and commute over an hour each way (which would have cut into my tinker time). Here, I'm 15 minutes from downtown. And when I'm ready to retire and move out of the big city, I know there'll be a line of car guys bidding on my place because nobody gonna build nothin like it nowhere near here, ever again. I'm sure Seamus that you've invested quite well. 8)

Thanks guys!

Yeah a shop of some kind was a major criteria for our house search. As much as I'd love to build myself my dream shop, it wasen't in the cards money wise and and I want'd to get to working on the cars asap. My poor black 86 mk2 has sat for almost 2 years waiting for this day, finally I can start on it. Luckily Mission is the Hot Rod central of BC. Its actually not that hard to find a place with a shop or garage here. This was the third place we looked at that was being used by a car guy to restore old cars. The trick was getting a shop this big with a half decent house. Thats where we lucked out big time.

Its nice that the locals are more leinent with car nuts here. Hell, every weekend and fri/sat night we'll be able to hear the engines roaring from the race track down the road. If you can't put up with cars, you don't live in Mission :)

Congrats Seamus!!!!

Out of curiosity, just how big is the garage????

I'm just trying to compare it to the 6 car/1,100 sq. ft detached garage that Keith Hart has in Portland... Couldn't believe the size of that "cavern" of his the first time I saw it...

Heh... Let's see.... Who can I have store parts for me??? Seamus up North, or Keith down South.... Decisions, decisions.... :p

(Mr Eng is now daydreaming of a LARGE garage for his house... someday).

Lets see, my shop is 24x36 or 864 sq ft. Plus the 12x20 garage for 240 sq ft attached to the house comes to 1104 sq ft enclosed. Hehehe! I beat Keith by 4 sq ft! :nutkick: Add my 10x20 carport it comes to 1304 sq ft under roof. :flex: Not trying to steal Seamus' and Keith's thunder but couldn't resist opportunity to use these emoticons

Yeah, I'll throw my $0.02 in here too...congrats on the new place. I'm jealous. Can't complain too much, but since getting the Redpra, one of my other cars has been moved outside, under a car cover...**not** one of the Supras, of course! BTW...got the Redpra back from the paint shop yesterday...looks great.

I'll be up in your neck of the woods around the end of February - going to a ski *cough* work conference in Whistler...maybe I'll try to take a couple of extra days off and kick around Vancouver for a bit. I'd love to see how things are going with your '86...heh!

Its 20x40, about 800 sqft. Just a little under Phils then.

Actually thats the only downside to this place, besides the shop, which will always be full of cars, theres not much for storage space. The house is technically only a 2bdrm. But lots of room to build a shed, which I must do to keep crap out of the garage.

Hey Bob, its just the exploder thats outside now right? Pics, we want pics of the sdr! If you manage a few days off up here let me know, we have a guest bdrm too :)

Thanks guys! Now for the hard part..... waiting till the end of October before we can move in!! :shocked!:

Seamus - be careful, I might actually take you up on that offer!

My old Capri is outside under a nice waterproof cover. The Supras and the Exploder get the garage.

I'll put some new pics of the SDR up as soon as I get the new wheels on (next week)....will be putting the new springs, struts, shocks and sways on this weekend, hopefully. I think Peter would be happy with the results. Come on down to Vegas, I'll be bringing it this year.

Again, congrats on the new place....now the fun starts. :)

*Ponders all the nice things that $26,000 can buy. Like...oh, I dunno....a Volkswagon Jetta*
