I'd always dreamed of retiring to the Texas Hill Country and building a barndominium. Unfortunately I think I waited too late because a bunch of celebrities started moving out there and drove up the prices. I went down there a couple years ago and talked to a real estate agent who showed me some properties, but everything I could afford was down some gravel road. You watch cars and trucks on gravel roads here in Texas, they trail huge plumes of white dust behind them. I told the agent those wouldn't work because my car would be filthy before I even got out to the main highway. Guess I'll have to retire somewhere else..I’ve moved a couple of times, and finally bought a house on top of a mountain, with a seven-mile dead end road, my personal racetrack. Except for the fact the last two miles is a gravel hillclimb, I don’t get the Supra out much on it.
I did for autocross a few years when I was much younger. I remember the cost. But I never really got to be competitive because I foolishly spent my money modifying my car (which put me in classes with far more competitive cars). The guys who were really good, they drove bone-stock Miata's or similar and spent all their weekends (and money) traveling hundreds of miles to different events, different cities and different chapters, so they could build up that "seat time". I just did the one Sunday a month with the local club and we were so overcrowded that I'd be lucky to get three or four minutes behind the wheel. Three to four minutes a month was insufficient for "practice" but it was a lot of fun even if I didn't win anything.I have seriously racked up 100’s of hours in the seat. Don’t do the math on the cost of that. LOL.
