A little of a Over kill for a Whining Diff but if you want to spend that Kind of money when a Solution as a Crush washer or Solid one will solve the problem then go ahead.

I would buy the Solid Insert and give it a Shot.
well i figure if im gonna keep this car like i plan on doing, and restore it, as i also plan on doing, i might as well do it right the first damn time. lol. no sense in spending money on getting one from a junkyard and trying it and have it whine too and still need to get the solid insert and do everything anyway.

i just want my car running perfect. too much to ask? lol.

thanks though.

Not at all too much to Ask. Wasnt for sure what your Plans where with the car. Ive seen people tear down perfect diff and replace everything because they wanted to make sure that its going to be perfect the first time.

I would purchase the Stuff from Aaron or Mark if infact your plans are to restore. Go for it. Nothing better than Insurance and Piece of mind.

Depends on if you are going to reuse the old Bearings and seals. If your going to replace everything then you are looking in the Ballpark of $500-$700 manly do to the fact that everything has to be Pressed on Then Setting the preload, Back lash and such. Pretty time consuming process for the most part. then ofcourse what the Diff Specialist is going to charge you for there Hourly rate.

(sorry. ima forum noob)

and you said $500-700 for a rebuild. im still tryin to figure out if rabidchimps rebuild kit for $207 is worth getting. i dont know much about rabidchimp so if anyone can give me some info that would be great. i would also get the solid spacer from weirperformance for the $55 plus shipping he mentioned earlier in this thread.

thanks

Some day soon, I would like to find a spare diff, because I'm sure you guys are correct about the diff noises being not normal.
My 86 is on its 3rd diff...the original was changed by the previous owner (not sure what its condition was), and I bought the third one because the second one was making noise...only to end up with the same thing (shoulda kept the one I replaced).
Not looking to rebuild, just keep an extra one on hand. I've gotten many miles from the one I'm on now, and a good spare should keep me running for quite a while...I'll rebuild one when necessary.

i just bought the rabidchimp diff rebuild kit (this weekend), and am now looking at getting the solid spacer/crush sleeve also. i dont know if i will get the lsd kit, but since it is going to be rebuilt and out, i might as well do it...

i will also try and keep you updated when things get prep, and rebuilt.

ok. i have a 85 ptype. everything is stock as far as i am aware. but when i reach around 65-70 mph there is this whining noise from the rear end of the car. it seems to come from around the right rear wheel but may be around the diff. i dont know enough about it to diagnose it correctly and im hoping someone else may have had this problem and knows whats going on?

my first thought was a wheel bearing but im not sure. i just turn the radio up to drown out the noise. lol.

any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!:salute:
At first I thought it might be your wife or GF complaining that you were going too fast, but then I read further and realized you were talking about a whining that the car was making.:zzzzz:

My bad.:sarcasm:

If your talking about teh Solid Spacer. Yes they do work. Ive installed 2 of them so far and they work Pretty well. From what Ive gotten, the only way that they dont work is if your Drive gears are worn out of Specs.

Out of all the MKlls I've owned, they all do it. Some are louder than others. If you push it up to about 80 MPH is goes away.

I know many of these cars make this whine noise from the rear and I can assure you it is not normal. Think of it this way, when toyota sold these cars new, if the rearends howled, whined, hummed, there would have been either a recall or huge warranty issue. If your rear is making any of these sounds it is NOT normal. It could be a bad bearing, if it is a bearing it will be a constant noise. If it is a bad crush sleeve it more than likely will not be constant, it will be speed sensitive.

Since I am not a forum supporting vendor I don't think I am allowed to post prices or to sell our products here. If I am wrong somone let me know.
i am not sure myself. but being the one that started this thread and am wanting to know, i would very much like to get as many details as i can about this product including the price.

there are people selling parts in the parts for sale section all the time that are just supra owners trying to get rid of clutter.

i dont see how you, helping us fix a problem 99% of supras have, would be looked down upon.

just my 2 cents.
