Dang it, I'm so close to having the oldest AND newest....
Dead mk2s don't count
I just checked, Bob just checked in 4 days ago so he probably still has his slightly newer 86.
Granted, both of these cars are about half restored and have been off the road for at least 7 years. But I have too much into either of them to not finish them, they'll be back! They are both cars that were mentioned early in this thread and fell into my possession in the last decade. Actually both of them have been owned by Deanfun and canadian_pscho previously.

I have just been Carfax browsing out of boredom and I have found a few late numbers, I even tried all the check digits to be sure.
177042 is the newest viable VIN I could find, but the car went ghost in 2001.
177041 info stopped after 2009
177039 was shipped late, 1/21/86 , but was totalled in 1997
177025 is the only car still alive, registered last November, shipped 1/30/86! It resides in NY, NY
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Some oldest
0002403
AUG 81 build plate, shipped 10/20/1981 (was recently on BaT)
0002309, no shipping info, CA gross polluter in 99...no info after
Thats pretty cool! I should try that here sometime. Carfax doesn't work in Canada, but when I registered one of my cars here once, they told me it was only 1 of 5 in the whole country so there should be a way to do it at the local insurance place. Would be nice to know if I actually have the youngest mk2 in all of Canada.
The problem is, every province has their own system. BC for instance has a Crown corporation that runs insurance for everyone, and they don't report stuff to Carfax. They have their own system you can inquire thru for collision and milage history.
I give the ol 85 two tone blue scheme the nod for best exterior color, but the black interiors are still nicer then the blue imo. These two tones have certainly made me rethink my allegiance to the SDR and black cars before though lol.
