Dipstick guide #11452-46010
Bolts for lower pan, pickup, and baffel (all the same) 90119-06624
Front sump oil drain fitting #?????-?????
2 rubber drain lines from turbo #?????-????? and #?????-?????

Modifying to big single (et al)
Beyond the scope of this FAQ

Fuel filter:

JZA70 1JZ for example, does not have a fuel filter at the engine. You have to adapt the 5M style fuel filter setup to the JZA70 fuel line system. Not very difficult.

Fuel pump:
Supra TT or MK3t
Walbro 255
Bosch 044 ? external?

note: Consider dual pumps if running much over stock boost on the JZ engine.

Engine mounts:

1: Custom brackets, use original mounts

2: Custom crossmember, to use original JZ mounts (norbie style)

Wiring/ECU:
(automatic ecu/harness will work fine)

1: Supra JZA70 harness (extend harness, and follow 7M style conversion diagrams)
2: Soarer 1JZ harness (extend harness, use wire diagrams to find appropriate power sources)
3: Aristo 2JZ harness (study US 2jz diagrams, good luck)

Power Steering:
1:RA65 Celica power steering lines (slight encouragement needed)
2:Driftmotion power steering line kit for the mk3 to 1jz pump is a direct fit
3:If having custom lines made, make sure to take the xJZ power steering pump end and your MKII Steering rack end.

Power steering cooler lines are on the low pressure side. (rack -> cooler ->reservoir)
A/C:

Use JZ compressor, convert to MA70 A/C head unit ( the top piece ). This will allow you to use stock MK2 A/C Button. Custom lines, similar to 7M/MK2 swap after that.

If deleting the AC:
Use Dayco serpentine belt # 5060735

Alternators (Generally 100 amp)
Direct fit: (MKII Alt connector is on the body/fender harness not the engine harness)
1992 SC300 5-speed alternators (Autozone - Duralast alt. P/N 14459)
The JZS147 Aristo

Note: Upgrade your Alt wires to 4 guage.

TACH:

Make your own
Similar to 7MGTE Swap
Use any 2JZGTE/1JZGTE Igniter (if not supplied with engine)

OEM Gasket Sets
1JZGTE full engine gasket kit - # 04111-46033

If you have other categories to add post them and I'll add to this post. Anything that has a "???" in it either needs confirmation or the information. If you have this info, please post.

A big thanks to everyone who has posted. This 1st post is a condensed 'soup' version of the comments and knowledge posted by many of our great members, some subjects are explored in greater detail in pages to follow.

There's the obvious JZA80/mid/TT/320 option in US Mk4s and JZA70/mid/TT/280 JDM MK3 options

thanks silver.

also, I need folks to add if it's a 1J or 2J when they post. I know the two above, but others may be over my head.

There is a ton of information to add. Do you want to just keep replying with bits and pieces?

Also for this topic, it is important to note what type of fan the engine comes with. Example (all twin turbo):

1JZ Supra, Mid Sump, Hydro Fan
1JZ Chaser, Front Sump, Hydro Fan,
2JZ Aristo, Front Sump, Hydro Fan,
1JZ Soarer, Mid Sump, Mechanical Fan,
2JZ Supra JDM, Mid Sump, Mech Fan,

etc

On the 1J, there are 2 types of harness/ECU combos, also on the 2J.

Then 1J VVTi, the list goes on.

Probably rather then try to cover every piece of JZ information. It would probably be best to stick to the information that is relevant to the swap into MA6x.

Transmission, 1j or 2j:

Original W58, using NA MK4 5 speed bellhousing, 2JZGE flywheel, 7M type clutch

R154, using JZA70 bellhousing, 1JZGTE flywheel, 7M type clutch

Radiator:

Stock (possible not sufficient)
MK3 radiator, with jza70 radiator hoses, mechanical or E-fan
JZA70 radiator, with jza70 radiator hoses, hydro fan

Water pump (1j or 2j):

To convert from hydro fan pump, to standard, use supra TT water pump. Water pump housing (rear), and supra TT or any 2JZ/1JZ water pump pulley (it's different).

Pan:

To convert mid sump to front sump. You need the upper and lower oil pan. The pickup, gaskets and baffle plate associated. You need the front sump dipstick and front sump oil drain fitting if using the stock twin turbos.

Fuel filter:

JZA70 1JZ for example, does not have a fuel filter at the engine. You have to adapt the 5M style fuel filter setup to the JZA70 fuel line system. Not very difficult

Fuel pump:

Supra TT or MK3t (at worst)
walbro 255 (bang for the buck)

Engine mounts:

Custom brackets, use original mounts
or custom crossmember, to use original JZ mounts (norbie style)

Wiring/ECU:
(automatic ecu/harness will work fine)

Supra JZA70 harness (extend harness, and follow 7M style conversion diagrams)
Soarer 1JZ harness (extend harness, use wire diagrams to find appropriate power sources)
Aristo 2JZ harness (study US 2jz diagrams, good luck)

A/C:

Use JZ compressor, convert to MA70 A/C head unit ( the top piece ). This will allow you to use stock MK2 A/C Button. Custom lines, similar to 7M/MK2 swap after that.

TACH:

Similar to 7MGTE Swap
Use any 2JZGTE/1JZGTE Igniter (if not supplied with engine)

That was a little "quickfire" but there is much more.

When you get a mid sump or rear sump engine and you swap for the front sump. Buy a front sump oil level dip stick, as the rear and mid sump are different lengths... ECUs between the JZA70 and JZX90 I know for a fact are different as the JZX90 has the auto loom attached to it. The JZX90 is a front sump vehicle (as that's my donor car).

1JZ Hydro fan pump is fine to use if you loop back the hoses but the price of the 2JZGE water pump pully is more expensive then the 2JZGE water pump unit which stopped me deciding of the conversion (which now I regret).

A engineering firm in Australia makes "off the shelf" JZ mounts that uses the M style rubber mounts so you can use the M series cross member (which I am using).

If you have the money, replace all the rear main, front main seals and change the water pump and timing belt as there isn't much room in the front of the car between the radiator and the harmonic balancer...

I'm keeping an auto (A341E) and done minor modifications in theory to make the auto shift but it's not doing so, so we will investigate and post a finding.

For those that are good with electronics you can try...
*I've got one made but not using this but it's not hooked up yet*

For those interested. Through Jeff W @ Champion Toyota the required parts for the mid/front oil pan swap (as of today's prices) $422.48.

Oil Pan:

To convert mid sump to front sump. You need the upper and lower oil pan. The pickup, gaskets and baffle plate associated. You need the front sump dipstick and front sump oil drain fitting if using the stock twin turbos.

I forgot to mention that you would also need the 2 turbo drain rubber hoses from the front sump twins. The original mid sump ones do not fit correctly.

no problems there, that's easy enough to cover with non-Toyota parts suppliers.

OK, I can't find this info anywhere and I need to get Jeff Watson the info so he can send me the right pan (instead of another mid-sump).

what year was the 1JZ-GTE in the JZX81-B Chaser? Will the Aristo front sump work on a 1J (I'm pretty sure, but making sure) and what years Aristo?

At this point, even a single year of a Chaser or Aristo that without-a-doubt will have the front sump that will fit a 1JZ-GTE.

I need to know ASAP. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I was just about to point out that there are a few different front sumps, so the part numbers and possibly pictures of the differences should be posted. Some are a little bit wider, with a wide pickup.

Lexus 2J should be front sump, so I would check with the lex dealer.

Sump

I am pretty certain that Pituala used the complete US-spec Lexus GS300 pan/pickup/sump pieces. I sure hope so as that's what I'm having shipped to me as I type this!

^^ This is correct, 93-94 GS300 works 100%. Parts numbers are as follows.

Upper oil pan, aluminum part, bolts to bottom of the block: 12111-46102 $238
Lower oil pan, steel part, bolts to bottom of upper pan:
Lower pan baffel: 12121-46010 $43.65
Oil pickup:
Dipstick: 15301-46022 $20.23
Dipstick Guide: 11452-46010 $26.11
Bolts for lower pan, pickup, and baffel (all the same) 90119-06624 $1.58 ea.

Still trying to find my other reciept with the numbers for the lower pan and pickup, and upper pan bolt numbers.

AFAIK all JZ series sumps are interchangeable.

The JZS147 and equivalent GS300 have a front sump, not sure what years they are exactly but that's the first generation. The second generation (JZS161) I'm not sure of though, I've never seen one up close.
