I own a 85 Automatic and when I put it in Reverse and start moving it begins to make this squeek noise "squeeka squeeka" and I can't figure it out... the car has 182,000. Any one experience something similiar or know what this is?

Thanks

Only in Reverse? When you shift to reverse, does car hesitate before moving-If so, How many beats-a one,or a one and a two(Best Lawrence Welk Voice)-Does Sqwak occur only when in motion, or as soon as you shift-Does it stop, or fade out-So many questions-

1)Yes only in reverse
2)It sorta jumps a lil bit
3)The beats are a one and a two
4)It only occurs when in motion

Sqwak you here is probably lack of fluid pressure to reverse clutch-No easy fixes-Check any lines for blockage-Pump or internal metal wear-worn out old parts-is usual cause

Can't help you but you are aware that when shifting from forward to reverse or vice versa you MUST to be at a full stop, else you put tremendous stress on the transmission as told to me by the friendly transmission mechanic as he was putting in a new torque converter.
