Okay, I know that this has been covered and that the 5m head will bolt up to the 7m block, but what all is needed in order to do this? Eg. 5m rods/pistons, etc.
Thanks.

A JDM 6MGE. Poof, your done.

Or, if you already have the 5M head and 7M block and are determined to do it this way, you will need to use the 5M pistons on the 7M crank. You will have difficulty finding a crank pulley that will work, so I would source one from a 6M before you spend too much time doing anything else.

lechner: Thanks....were would I find a 6m crank pulley? Because I plan on turboeing the engine, but I don't want to do a 7m swap. Will I need the 7m ecu/wiring harness also? And which rods will I use?

Attached to a 6M? :zzzzz: Naw seriously you'll probably have a hell of a time getting just a 6M pulley unless an importer or a member here is parting a 6M. At the end of the day unless you have a compelling reason to use a 7M block its probably cheaper/easier to get a 6M. Also if you are going turbo with the new motor I'd just do the 7M conversion and get it right in the 1st place.

To answer your other questions

If you use the 5M head you'll use the 5M wiring and aquire all the fuel system headaches that go with that choice

5M crank use 5M rods

6/7M crank use 6/7M rods.

Will the 6m use the 5m ECU/WH? Basically, I don't have the cash or time for a 7m swap because of what's involved, but if a 6m just drops right in and uses all the 5m stuff--ECU, wiring harness, a/c, etc.--then i might do that.

Yes, the 5m ECU and harness go well with the 6m. You can even use your 5m intake and egr on the 6m if the smog nazis in your area require stock smog shit. In fact, the average eye wouldn't know that your 6m was not a 5m once it's in place.

6m uses the stock 5m wiring harness, just swap your intake manifold, throttle body etc. run a search for 5/7mge and you will get all you want to know about "building" your own 6m. It doesnt sound like a bad idea to me since you might have to rebuild a imported 6m anyway. For a 5/7mge use your 7m crank, 7m rods, 7m bearings, 5m rings and your stock pistons (flat tops will yield a 9.2 Compression ratio where as the domes will yeild a 9.8 me thinks). Then either find a 6m crank pulley or have your 5m one machined to fit the 7m crank.

Others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. This is just what I remember off the top of my head from my searching. Grammar sucks too cause its late. :D
