Hi there,
I know this is the Celica Supra forums, but i can't find many other usefull or friendly resources in relation to my recently purchased car,so i have joined your, from what i can see, massive community.Hope you don't mind.

I used to own a Supra red 1985 Celica Supra 2.8i MA61 with the 5M-GE motor which was a fantastic car and one of the only cars that i have owned that i regretted selling. The only reason at the time for selling it was the amount of rust in the tailgate and sunroof.Replacing and spraying both of these at the time, around 12 years ago, would have set me back around ÂŁ750.

In September last year i bought a 1985 Toyota Soarer 3.0 GT LIMITED MZ12 in pearl white with burgundy leather interior.I absolutely love the car.I owned a 1985 Toyota Soarer 2.8 GT MZ10 a few years ago but as with the supra the bodywork and even the chassis in some areas was dissolving away so it sadly went to the scapyard in the sky.
Luckily this Soarer i bought has been looked after well by the 2 previous owners and garaged for most of its life so there is only some small areas of rust at the rear of the car.I am slowly doing the car up and what original parts i can't get hold of i have found some companies doing good aftermarket upgrades, for example spark plug leads from Magnecor and an air filter from k&n.
My brother likes the car even more than me so he has set up a website to document the restoration project www.soarerproject.blogspot.com
Most of my Soarer mechanically is almost identical to the MA61 Supra so its been interesting reading a lot of the topics on this forum.

Cheers for now,

Jim Connolly

Wow,
what a response,i didn't expect that, thankyou.Concerning photos,i will try and get some taken when the weather is better here, otherwise for the time being, check out the project website www.soarerproject.blogspot.com
Addmitedly there are not many photos on the website either, but i will try and get some up there.Something that has surprised me is the fact that,at least in the states, you tell me that you didn't get the mz12 soarer there.Although i understand that it was a japanese domestic market only model,i saw a lot of them when i travelled to Australia and New Zealand, and on my log book/registration document it states that the car is 'ex USA'.I remember hearing that back in the eighties American car companies would bring in cars from other countries to examine and compare against their models. The companies would then send the cars out to be auctioned off.We had a few of these sort of auctions here in Jersey and i am pretty sure this is how my Soarer came to the island. Its a shame it wasn't officially imported to the states as i think it has an american car of the eighties style to it.
Hi Rosso and thanks for your info from my cars birthplace.I am sure that the early Soarers were not officially imported to the UK either, any that are here are either from auctions as mentioned above or from personal imports.
I have visited your online store 935 motorsports, its fantastic and i am going to buy some goodies from you in the near future.I have taken a photo of the airflow meter which has the part numbers on it.Concerning the injectors,i couldn't see any part numbers, partly because they are quite well hidden and partly because they are so small.Do you know exactly where the part numbers would be located?
I will email these to you very soon.
Once again, thanks to you all for your glowing welcome messages and hope to talk, help and hopefully contribute in the future,
Jim
