quick question

whats the correct number on the distributor cap that is on top facing the valve cover line up with the bolt?
since i got the car it has been number 3 but i saw this firing order thing for our cars and it has number 1 line up with the bolt.

im about to change the cap and rotor and the spark plugs got everything ready but this gots me wondering.

take a couple pics like you have already and put it back the same way you took it apart! haha if it worked before it'll work again! :thumbsup:

That drawing is just a representation of what cylinder fires in what order. Your dist. cap is indexed to the dist. body and will only go on one way. It will be just like in your photo. The cylinder numbers are molded into the top of the cap to make it easy. Do one wire at a time to make the job practically fool-proof.

This post answers both your questions. Your distributor is indexed, the three bolts are NOT equal distance apart. You can only put it on one way, numbers molded in or not. The picture of the firing order just shows the firing order, and is in no way meant to be a wiring schematic, or factual representation of the actual wiring, just the firing order, period.

thanks everyone :) i will just replaced the distributor as shown in my picture with the 3 facing upward to the bolt.
i just put the new distributor back. but i will have to look again if i put the wires correct . why nobodys has ask this questions or post a picture of how the wires go? i have spent a few hours searching and came up with nothing. glad i had that saved to my computer this are things that should be up incase another noob like me comes around wondering.
