Are newer Toyotas equipped with Chevy Crate engines? I remember hearing that the blocks are the same and an old Toyota tech was saying that they were and now my dad is in denial that his Tundra has an American block in it. Man Toyota went downhill after they started building cars in the U.S.

That information probably got a little jumbled and the tech was probably talking about certain Chevy's that came with Toyota engines, like the late 80's Nova and the Geo Prism. As far as the Tundra having an "American" block, well it was assembled in America, so if you play with the words right... NO, I don't think so.

Its been a long, long time ago, but the F family motors in the Landcruiser FJ40 was supposedly a knock off the old Chevy 235 straight six and it was even rumored that some parts were interchangeable some years.

Seeing as how the Tundra 2UZ is based upon the 1UZ-FE, I really doubt it. Toyota poured their heart out to create the UZ - and suceeded greatly :)

I agree completely, except for the damn exhaust manifold gaskets....or the manifolds themselves, if any of you have a tundra/4-runner/sequoia with the 2UZ, if you hear clicking take it in before 60k...I love the motors power and torque, but they designed the exhaust manifolds wrong.

What goes wrong with exh. system on 2uz?

they just tend to leak and it sounds like you have a huge valve tick or it sounds like a diesel. Most customers never notice it (i don't know how). There's nothing wrong with them i guess but they just tend to leak around the manifold more than other toyota engines do.
